Now dear children, pay close attention
I am the voice from the pillow
I have brought something for you
I have torn it out of my chest

With this heart, I have the power
To blackmail the eyelids
I sing until the day awakes
A bright light in the heavens
My heart burns

They come to you at night
Demons, ghosts, black fairies
They crawl out of the cellar shaft
And will look under your bed

Now dear children, pay close attention
I am the voice from the pillow
I have brought something for you
A bright light in the heavens
My heart burns

They come to you during the night
And steal your little hot tears
They wait until the moon awakes
And put them in my cold veins

Now dear children, pay close attention
I am the voice from the pillow
I sing until the day awakes
A bright light in the heavens
My heart burns

My heart burns

this song is one of their best. as a psyche-up song it is excellent, mainly because of the sudden transition from quiet to v loud. having now read the what the lyrics mean in english has given a whole new meaning to the song, its like some sort of fairy tale warning to kids.... maybe some german tradition, i dont know. german is such an ominous language when spoken like rammstein speak. anyway, if you need a song to get u hyped up, try this.

The lyrics are really cool. I don't know if there's deeper meaning in them that I don't know about, I think there probably is. I think this song would go really well with an adventurous/eerie music video, but I'm always thinking of stuff liek that.

I have recently become a RAMMS+TEIN fan and I must say that this is probably one of their best songs ever. The song really has a foreboding/morbid theme to it. The guitar along with the orchestra give it more depth.

This reminds me of how nightmares were once thought to have been caused by demons or other malevolent spirits (I think the original root of the word ment a little demon jumping on your chest or something). Most of the songs on "Mutter" seem to be related to fairy tales anyway.

yes. origanally, this song was going to be about 'the little sandman' who comes and steals childrens scalps while they sleep, but ended up like this. Mutter is their best album besides Reise reise, because the words in the songs actually mean something. this is my favorite overall Rammstein song. a note to new fans- please learn a little German before posting about the lyrics. I myself am German, and these songs are a million times better in German if you understand them.

I feel that all of MUTTER is about Birth, and Childhood, in my eyes, I have to agree with everyone that this is about nightmares.

I allways imagine a man putting his children to bed. And he's trying to comfort them by telling them he'll protect them fromwhatever may come in the night.
