Probably my favorite Joy Division song. The guitar on the version of 'Still' never fails to make my hair stand on end. I think this song is Ian's most autobiographical one. His feelings of boredom, inadiquacy and fears of being trapped with a wife and child at such a young age have made him emotionally numb. He longs for something to shake him out of it and eventually , as fellow JD geeks know, took up with a mistress. But that failed to help him and in fact, only made things worse. Coupled with his epilepsy ("lights are flashing") his life has spiraled out of control and he's confused and has no idea what to do until "the new sensation takes ahold." Sadly, it pushed him in to taking his own life as an answer to his problems.
