Somebody told me
I know where to go
Somebody showed me
I was last to know

Sell me down the river
Sell me down the river
Sell me down the river
Sell me down the river

What I wanted
Is what I wanted
What I wanted
Is what she wanted

Unfriendly feelings
Down on wounded knee
Unfriendly reasons
Some blind mother's need

Sell me down the river
Sell me down the river
Sell me down the river
Sell me down the river

What I wanted
Is what we wanted
What we wanted
Is what she wanted

You read the words
And it sells you life
They sell their words
But it's all a lie

Somebody told me
I know where to go
Somebody showed me
I was last to know

Sell me down the river
Sell me down the river
Sell me down the river
Sell me down the river

What I wanted
Is what I wanted
What we wanted
Is what we wanted

What I wanted
Is what I wanted, yeah
What we wanted, yeah
What she wanted

The second album
Twelve precious melodies
Worth listening
Hope you enjoy them
Like if it's sung to me

Listen to twelve great tunes
Playing on your stereo
Dining and dancing too
Entertain on the piano

The second album
Twelve gracious melodies
To listen
Include this number
Keeping you company

Well getting on the record soon
Grooving on an afternoon
That's on my album too

This album cover
Looks similar like Johnny Mathis
For Mathis lovers this album has his style
Beautiful numbers are heard on the car radio
After all records are cut in the recording studio

My second album
One dozen melodies to listen
Include this number
Keeping in company

Well, hoping that this record sells
Singing by our wishing well
That's on my album too

The second album

thats right. before reading that ive always seen it as like an anti-record company type song. but the abortion interpretation makes perfect sense.

Nevermind I listened to the song again and now I can see why it's about abortion.

    My Interpretation
Robert De Leo (the bands bassist) wrote the chords to the song while out on the road, he was exhausted & homesick so that's what inspired the tracks melody. I've heard rumors the song may be about abortion, Scott (who wrote the songs lyrics) has mentioned it was about betrayal.

Weiland's wife got pregnant and they had an abortion. Not sure if it's with his first wife or Mary [his current.] Either way, this song is about abortion. Such a great song.

I actually thought this was about advertising. Like how he says "sell me down the river" over and over as well as the "what i wanted is what i wanted" and all that. it seems even more evident with the "you read the words and it sells you life, they sell their words, but its all a lie" saying that false advertising is so blatant in our world. I guess it could be about abortion..I'm not sure.

In concert, Scott's introduced this one by saying it's about when he and his wife had an abortion. Sometimes guys'll just say stuff about songs to throw you off, but i don't think he was.

It's about an abortion him and his girlfriend at the time decided to have when he was younger. He never married the girl though
