"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
You could outrage the silent sea,
I want to be, I need to be something more like you,
Loneliness it confronts me,
I want to be, I need to be something more like you,
Secrets crack silently when you fall,
Poison my knife we could be here all day,
If I fly I'll escape this nest,
I want to be, I need to be something more like you,
And I don't need to be like the rest,
I want to be, I need to be something more like you,
I want to be, I need to be
I want to be, I need to be something more like you,
Loneliness it confronts me,
I want to be, I need to be something more like you,
Secrets crack silently when you fall,
Poison my knife we could be here all day,
If I fly I'll escape this nest,
I want to be, I need to be something more like you,
And I don't need to be like the rest,
I want to be, I need to be something more like you,
I want to be, I need to be

This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
I love this song :D I thought by now the viewings for InMe would be like really high seen as how many people have heard of them already. And we all have Kerrang to thank for that... spits on Kerrang grrr I hate Kerrang gags
whos kerrang ? i remember when i started this thread , i found this band and had to put them on songmeanings.net ... such a good band ...
Kerrang is a magazine, I do believe. I've seen articles and pictures about Silverchair in it.
Kerrang! is the biggest selling weekly music magazine in the world.
not many people from the US have heard of InMe yet
US's loss!!!
I was gonna play some InMe songs with my band, including this one, but now everyone's listened to them, it's a bit of a shame, cos now it doesn't have the edge of playing a really good song that not many people have listened to
inme have become too big if u ask me! wen so many ppl have heard of a band they just dont seem as special! if any1 gets what i mean.
Bah, who cares if more people like the band? Bands like InMe deserve all the attention it gets.
These lyrics are too long. The song is just the first part, like this:
You could outrage the silent sea, I want to be, I need to be something more like you, (2x)
Secrets crack silently when you fall, (2x)
Poison my knife we could be here all day, (lots of times)
and then repeat.
Kerrang is bad? KERRANG? What about MTV? Excuse me if I'm wrong, but MTV havn't played actual music videos for years...Oh sure, they play cribs, and room raiders, and pimp my ride...all the IMPORTANT stuff. I'm pretty sure the last time they actually played music was April last year on the 10th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death..and even that was a one off...
Yeah, I'm sure they started out as some tiny little group of people in a basement in Figi..back then I bet it was about the god damn music...before the bigwigs in NY turned it in to BLOODSUCKING CORPORATE MONEY-MAKING MACHINE!...Don't get me wrong i've got nothing against NY its awesome...but DAMN MTV TO HELL
Ok..I think that it's out of my system...
NO WAIT...
Nope, all gone
:)
