Easy Lyrics
Girl, I’m leaving you tomorrow
Seems to me, girl, you know I’ve done all I can
You see I begged, stole and I borrowed, yeah, ooh...
I’m easy like Sunday morning
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning
I’ve paid my dues to make it
Everybody wants me to be what they want me to be
I’m not happy when I try to fake it, no, ooh...
I’m easy like Sunday morning
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning
I wanna be free to know the things I do are right
I wanna be free
Just me, whoa, oh, babe
I’m easy like Sunday morning, yeah
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning, whoa
I’m easy like Sunday morning, yeah
‘Cause I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning, whoa
This song perfectly describes the feeling when you have given all you can to a relationship and it's still not enough. No matter how much you try to make the other person happy - "Seems to me girl, you know I've done all I can/ You see I've begged, stole and borrowed" your relationship still turns to sh*t.
The reason he is feeling so "easy" about walking out on this girl is because he knows without a doubt that he has tried his very hardest to no avail. Maybe he has accepted he's not the right person for her, and she for him - that's why he's "easy like Sunday morning" about leaving.
This is a song that it is very easy to miss the lyrics on and just think its about an easy going guy. If you really listen to the lyrics what he is saying is he's tried everything in this relationship and gave it his all but he can't deal with his wive's/girlfriend's ways anymore. "Why would anyone try to put chains on me?" "Everybody wants me to be what they want me to be". Basically he's saying she wanted him to be something he's not and he's sick of it and he's moving on and he's over her. Not exactly as easy going as the casual listener would think. I must have listed to this song 100 times on the radio and never paid attention to the lyrics but when I finally did I realized this isn't just an easy going guy. This is a guy that has made up his mind that he's out the door, never to return.
@michael14 Yeah! He's easy not necessarily because it's his nature, but because he's made the decision to walk away and he's not worried anymore. It's about the weightless feeling you get when you're free of both something that's causing you unhappiness and from the indecision that has kept you in that situation up until now.

i actuallly think he's at ease not becuase she's leaving, but becuase he is...he has done everything he could ("I've done all I can...beg, stole, borrowed") and so he is at peace with the fact that it ain't gonna work...but I've always thought it's him walking ("why in the world would anybody put chains on me...I wanna be free")
This has got to be one of the most beautifully written songs. The meaning is basically obvious.. He's leaving his girl because he's a generally easy-going, free spirit type. He wants "to be free" as in not attached to someone. His girl knows that he's done all that he can possibly do to save the relationship but it's just not working. So he's leaving and there are no qualms about it. I love The Commodores =]
For a guy who is so easy, he complains about a lot of people. Sunday morning is sleeping in, making bacon and eggs and reading the paper. This guy sounds totally stressed out about all the things he tried to do for his girlfriend and everybody else. This song makes no sense to me.
yeah i like this song too i think its on a levis commerical
i love this song, but just the other day i think i completely understand what it's about. it talks about stresses in his life like his girlfriend and expectations from her and other people around him and no matter what he does it isn't right or he always feels like shit. But he finally can't take it and just basically says fuck it, none of this is worth the pain and suffering
I love this song it's relaxing and it has some sort of non-sad beat to it, although i know this supposed to be sad love song for the guy. My interpretation would be that the guy has done everything he could possibly done to resolve the issues with his girl, he had fought for her, he did every bit of fix to at least save up their relationship but no matter what actions had been taken it all things points to no good results. Until he finally realized that it's too much of a pain already, its too much of stress, too much hopes that's painfully killing him that made him decide to let it go. He knows he deserve to be happy, and he worth a deserving girl so he decided to move on. Well, pretty much what im going through right now. :(
He's at peace with his decision. It's actually a great feeling. It seems like whoever he was with was controlling and manipulative. He's an easy going guy and doesn't take too kindly to this abusive way of life. He has done all he could and he wont let anyone dispute or undermine his efforts in the relationship. He also won't let the hurt and bitterness sway him from who he truly is: an easy going guy. Easy going men are this way because they think and plan alot. So he has thought about this and now his mind is made up.He'll keep traveling with an unbuttoned heart and find real love elsewhere.
He's "easy" because he just doesn't care anymore. He's no longer stressing out or fighting it... he's just letting go of his problems. Like it's Sunday morning and there's nothing to worry about.
