This just in, where to begin
Grin and bear it, it's bare and grim
Adoration, titillation, I'm the victim now
Because she's figured me out
She lights my candle, she has a handle on me
It's going well but I'm scared as hell
That she'll figure me out
She thinks it's sacred to be naked
But I don't care, cause she's had me there
You see she's figured me out
And I want to shout at the top of my lungs now
But oh my god, if she hears me she'll come running in
These are my hands, these are my faults
These are my plans
There are my nasty little thoughts
I wrote 'em down for you to contemplate
At a later date

Well the word is out, what's it all about
Doubtless shady, no shadow of doubt
In moderation, this sensation would be fabulous
But she's figured me out
She's in my shower for an hour
She's just washin' and wonderin'
And trying to figure me out

And I want to shout at the top of my lungs now
But oh my god, if she hears me she'll come running in
These are my hands, these are my faults
These are my plans and these are my nasty little thoughts
I wrote 'em down for you to contemplate

It's a little bit of something that I feel
Oh man, I just can't deal
And other than this distance that has covered me
Can't you see that you have smothered me

Well, you're out there, just stay out there
Just when I was on to something else
That's when she figures me out

stroke 9 is awesome, a little while back i met the guys and they are just the sweetest people. Luke is very very very sweet, and i was lucky enough to steal a kiss from him. ;), i think stroke 9 should get more recognition, they just rock

I agree this song is a great song from the guys, this is like the ultimate "get happy" song...put this on and you cant not enjoy yourself....this whole CD is a great CD to put in the CD player and just go cruisin' kind of disappointing that most of the comments are only on the "radio songs"...seems like most of the people only know stroke 9 from the songs they hear on the radio...some fair-weather fans?! (no offense) as for the rest...keep on strokin' (hehe)

i see it as a guy falling in love in a way he never expected. "She lights my candle, she has a handle on me It's going well but I'm scared as hell/That she'll figure me out" it's him coming to the reality that he's let his defense down. kind of a morning after prospective, where he finds out that "In moderation, this sensation would be fabulous But she's figured me out" and he's overcome, and sort of panicking that he's been "committed"

wow, guys. maybe I'm just like a crazily die-hard s9 fan or something, but that's not what the song is about. well i guess you could see it that way... but this is it. This song is about masturbation. He was pleasing himself, and his girlfriend walked in and caught him in the act. Now she's in his shower thinking about it, and he's waiting outside, and theres really thick tension in the air. He's trying to figure out what to say, so he writes a song for her to contemplate at a later date, to get her to understand.

@[Kahiara:35260] Actually I think the husband passed away, "She sang for you last night She heard you were calling" Many people say they have felt, heard, or seen their loved ones after they have passed. "Don't be scared now Close your eyes She holds guard tonight Go on forward no remorse Life will take it's course" This is said to the late husband by a third part (never named), who encourages him to pass on. Because life will eventually continue. The phrase "holds guard" refers to the ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_(ceremony) ) which is a Christian ceremony held after someone dies. Now it is usually held right after the funeral, but in most celtiic countries the wake is held before the funeral. "She danced with you last night so you will remember All you have shared, a lifetime." This sentence feels as if the only thing it wants to convey is their history together, namely, husband and wife. For the rest it just refers back to the first verse.

Shudder to Think
This song is timeless, and nearly 20 years after its creation, still possesses the mystique it did the first time i heard it ~1994. To me, at first blush, all those years ago, it had some kind of homo-erotic allure. The line "so that the others may do" tells of something which must be done for others to follow suit. It felt like like some kind of roxy-glam-pop invitation to sexual liberation. Upon further introspection I think the song may not have an intrinsic meaning, but simply represents a sort of "holding open the door" for people who otherwise might be affronted by this song/band's unusual style. I know, as a sort of armchair rock-historian, that there have been few bands so daring and so true to the sound that wanted to emerge from within, whether the creator wanted it or not. This band handled it with elegance and grace seldom, if ever, seen.
