The Whisper Lyrics
This, like a few other songs on that album, is about a vampire.
@IRONCAT68 Yes I agree, vampirism. Such a great song and album.

I truly believe, now, that this song is related to the Manson cult. Before I looked up the lyrics I was listening to Rage for Order... at the very end of this song you can hear (what I believe is) an audio clip from the movie "Helter Skelter."
The clip is taken during the scene where they are bringing Linda Kasabian, who turned state's evidence for the prosecution, into the courtroom. At one point, a Manson girl runs toward Linda, screaming "you'll kill us all." As she repeats the line a second time, you hear her being slammed against a wall and handcuffed. It matches the audio in the film.
Anyway, that's my take on it.
This tune is one of the few times when I love a song but haven't the foggiest idea what it's about. The rolling main riff and the vocals from Geoff are spectacular. An absolute essential for any Queensryche fan's music library.
I always took this song to be about the spell of religion in general. It can be interpreted as either vampires or a church. How the bait of religion is to relieve your suffering and give eternal life, "Time is the promise, delivered with stunning consistency, line after line, time after time, the innocent victim awaits...".
To me the song refers to what you make it yourself, kind of a finding patterns in a spotfield test. Also think there is a conscious meaning and sometime you touch deeper awarenesses. In this time, in Belgium kids were kidnapped and kept in a cave. To me, this song perfectly fits to their release (cries from the aisles). Things were in the same time. They caught a monster for it, but their are numerous dissapearances of people wanting to testify so it is more than assumable that it considered a network of abusing politicians and aristocrate courtesy. Also testimonies with murder details and scenery description by victims were vertically classified as fantasy. How cold is the viper. A bit like they unawarely felt that time what the extreme corners of the human mind were capable to. Still think a song can keep different meanings, from which some should be explored. The theme surely fits to the mindcrime story and it makes rage even more legendary to me.
