"The Real Me" as written by and Peter Townshend....
I went back to the doctor
To get another shrink
I sit and tell him 'bout my weekend
But he never betrays what he thinks

Woo
Can you see the real me, doctor?
Doctor?
Can you see the real me, doctor?
Woah, doctor

I went back to my mother
I said I'm crazy ma, help me
She said I know how it feels son
'Cause it runs in the family

Can you see the real me, mama?
Mama?
Can you see the real me, mama?
Woah, mama

Can you see
Can you see the real me?
Can you see
Can you see the real me
The real me
The real me

The cracks between the paving stones
Look like rivers of flowing veins
Strange people who know me
Peeping from behind every window pane
The girl I used to love
Lives in this yellow house
Yesterday she passed me by
She doesn't want to know me now

Can you see the real me?
Can ya?
Can ya?
Can you see the real me?
Can ya?
Woah, yeah

I ended up with a preacher
Full of lies and hate
I seemed to scare him a little
So he showed me to the golden gate

Can you see the real me, preacher?
Preacher?
Can you see the real me, preacher?

Can you see
Can you see
Can you see
Woah

Can you see the real me, doctor?

Can you see the real me, ma?

Can you see the real me (me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me)?

General CommentEach stanza that follows with Jimmy shouting "Can you see the real me?" reflects one of his presonalities.

Doctor never betraying what he thinks - Helpless Dancer

"I'm crazy ma!" - Bell Boy

Trying to reach his girl - Is It Me?

Seeing the preacher - Love Reign O'er Me

Read the story within the album, it might make more sense there.

General Commentnobody seems to understand this man's problem. the doctor seems to comprehend only what he reads in books, the mother gives no attention, and the preacher feels that his problem is related to his distant relationship with god. none of them bother to listen and open their minds to him, but base their conclusions solely on what they know

General CommentThis is how I feel all the time, because no one really knows me. Jimmy feels like no one really knows who he really is. The bass in this song is kick ass!!

General CommentAn amazing song. The kid is finding that he can't go to anybody to help him with his multipersonality and he's probably just as confused as the doctor, mother and preacher. I think Entwistle should have been knighted for this song.

General CommentOne of the best bass performances of all time. Entwistle was one of the most underrated players in the world, due to his more vocal bandmates, but man he is awesome on this tune.

General CommentI think this song is giving an intro duction to what the album is about.
He thinks theres somthing wrong with him so he gose to the docter but the docter dosnt want to say what he relly thinks-"I went back to the doctor
    To get another shrink.
I sit and tell him about my weekend,
But he never betrays what he thinks."
As the docter wouldnt tell him what he wanted to hear he goes to his mum but she just thinks its a fase and dosnt take him to seriosly- "I went back to my mother
I said, "I'm crazy ma, help me."
She said, "I know how it feels son,
'Cause it runs in the family.""
Now hes paronoid that the whole world (especialy his ex gf) thinks hes a freak-"The cracks between the paving stones
Look like rivers of flowing veins.
    Strange people who know me
Peeping from behind every window pane.
The girl I used to love
    Lives in this yellow house.
    Yesterday she passed me by,
She doesn't want to know me now."

finaly the last choice he has -religion -"I ended up with the preacher,
    Full of lies and hate,
I seemed to scare him a little
So he showed me to the golden gate."

after the preacher has no awnsers apart from take up his religion he dosnt know what to do.

Well thats my opinion tell me what u think, hope u enjoyed!
