Doctors have come from distant cities, just to see me
Stand over my bed, disbelieving what they're seeing

They say I must be one of the wonders
Of God's own creation
And as far as they see, they can offer
No explanation

Newspapers ask intimate questions, want confessions
They reach into my head to steal, the glory of my story

They say I must be one of the wonders
Of God's own creation
And as far as they see, they can offer
No explanation

Ooo, I believe, fate smiled
And destiny laughed as you came to my cradle
Know this child will be able
Laughed as my body she lifted
Know this child will be gifted
With love, with patience, and with faith
She'll make her way, she'll make her way

People see me I'm a challenge to your balance
I'm over your heads how I confound you
And astound you
To know I must be one of the wonders
God's own creation
And as far as they see, they can offer
Me no explanation

Ooo, I believe, fate smiled
And destiny laughed as she came to my cradle
Know this child will be able
Laughed as she came to my mother
Know this child will not suffer
Laughed as my body she lifted
Know this child will be gifted
With love, with patience and with faith
She'll make her way, she'll make her way
She'll make her way, she'll make her way

    Song Meaning
Natalie wrote this song for a woman who was born with handicaps that seemed too great to overcome . She was instutionalized at a birth due to her disability. She had overcome the obstacles she had to indure due to the love and support of her adoptive family especially her adoptive mother.

This is a pro-life song. We search for reasons to explain everything in life. It is a very difficult thing to understand why a person should go through life with what we feel is such a curse. Seeing a handicapped person is uncomfortable for most of us. It reminds us of our own burdens and our lack of control over our world. This song suggests that when science fails us we can accept the wonders of life through faith and in God we can even believe that such a helpless being can actually have a wonderful life.

I think that this song is about a person, who like me, was born diabled, but no matter what, like the song says, with "love, patience, and faith she'll make her way". I am a "wonder" because I was born deathly ill and I beat the odds. We are NOT odd, we are truly gifted.

Why do people make things that are so simple so confusing. Its not about a miraculous recovery from disease. Its not about women specifically. Its about a child with a handicap. And the refrain explains it all. If you as parents see this child as handicapped, she will be handicapped. If you see her handicap as a gift, she will be gifted. God gives us all we need to live full meaningful lives and what we are missing, he makes up for with other attributes. Her disabilities will instill the gifts of Love, Patience and Faith. Things many of us struggle to find in our lives becuase we've gotten whatever we needed in life without them. We never learned them. This girl will have these gifts out of necessity and her life will be different from ours, yet fulfilling...so don't cry and feel sorry for her.

for some strange reason, whenever i hear this song... i think of her as being pregnant with a fish. that's what makes her a wonder.

I sincerely doubt this is a pro-life song. That doesn't sound like Natalie. It is definately an uplifiting song and makes me feel good everytime I hear. So few songs are positive and speak of joyful things. This one just makes your heart melt.
