Oh, yeah, oh

You had just walked in from work
And there's a letter in the kitchen
With your name on it
Inside, you will find
An answer for each question you have
You had to know the day would come
That I'd find out that you are a liar
And a player, and the list goes on
So it hurts you now
But it would hurt even more if I stayed, so

Hope that you can understand
That you were once my man
But it's time to move on
Since you're playing games, oh

You thought the day would never come
Never ever thought that you
Would be reading, "Dear John"
You be sure to read each line
Line by line, and take your time
You thought the day would never come
Never ever thought that you
Would be reading, "Dear John"
By the time you read this letter
I'll be feeling much better
So long, that means I'm gone

Guess that you are wondering
How did she know that I
Was the type to play you
If you read, you'll find out

I have to end it
Bet I was right from the start
And I never took the time to ask myself
Why, oh, why would you waste your time
On a nigga in the club with a group of thugs
You shoulda known it was on
When I kept callin' your job
And they said that you were sick
So I paged you, don't get no call back
Now it all makes sense

The two of us are not meant to be
So by the time you read this letter
And try to make things better
Save your lines
But read each one of mine

Wish you'd see your game was not
Strong enough to keep me holding on
Now you be strong
Time for me to go 'cause

Thought the day would never come
Never ever thought that you
Would be reading, "Dear John"
You be sure to read each line
Line by line, and take your time
You thought the day would never come
Never ever thought that you
Would be reading, "Dear John"
By the time you read this letter
I'll be feeling much better
So long, that means I'm gone

You thought the day would never come
Never ever thought that you
Would be reading, "Dear John"
You be sure to read each line
Line by line, and take your time
You thought the day would never come
Never ever thought that you
Would be reading, "Dear John"
By the time you read this letter
I'll be feeling much better
So long, it means I'm gone

I wish I could see the look on your face
Ha ha ha, ha ha ha
And you wish you could just see my face
No no no, no no no
You thought I was playin' when I said you had
One more time, one more time
But if you can play this game
Then I can play it too, 'cause

You thought the day would never come
Never ever thought that you
Would be reading, "Dear John"
You be sure to read each line
Line by line, and take your time
You thought the day would never come
Never ever thought that you
Would be reading, "Dear John"
By the time you read this letter
I'll be feeling much better
So long, that means I'm gone

You thought the day would never come
Never ever thought that you
Would be reading, "Dear John"
You be sure to read each line
Line by line, and take your time
You thought the day would never come
Never ever thought that you
Would be reading, "Dear John"
By the time you read this letter
I'll be feeling much better
So long, that means I'm gone

This explains how I felt after I broke up with my boyfriend. The perfect "bounce back after a break up" song.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Another Love
Tom Odell
I think the meaning is pretty clear. This person got really burned in a previous relationship, and because of this is unable to love and show care in his present one, even though he so badly wants to. It's lovely song, and very sad. You can really feel how defeated and frustrated he is with himself.
