If you invest your tuppence wisely in the bank
Safe and sound
Soon that tuppence, safely invested in the bank
Will compound
And you'll achieve that sense of conquest
As your affluence expands
In the hands of the directors
Who invest as propriety demands

- May I sir?
- Carry on, Banks.

- You see, Michael, you'll be part of
Railways through Africa! (Exactly!)
Dams across the Nile! (The ships, tell them about the ships!)
Fleets of Ocean Greyhounds! (More, tell them more!)
Majestic self-amortizing canals! (Oh, it fires the imagination!)
Plantations of ripening tea
All from tuppence, prudently, thriftily, frugally
Invested in the - to be specific - in the
Dawes Tomes Mousley Grubbs Fidelity Fiduciary Bank

- Now, Michael
When you deposit tuppence in a bank account
Soon you'll see
That it blooms into credit of a generous amount
Semianually
And you'll achieve that sense of stature
As your influence expands
To the high financial strata
That established credit now commands

You can purchase first and second trust deeds
Think of the foreclosures!
Bonds, chattels, dividends, shares
Bankruptcies, debtor sales, opportunities
All manner of private enterprise, shipyards, the mercantile
Collieries, tanneries, corporations, amalgamations
Banks!

- You see, Michael?

Tuppence
Patiently, cautiously, trustingly
Invested in the - to be specific - in the
Dawes Tomes Mousley Grubbs Fidelity Fiduciary Bank

General CommentGREAT SONG! And funny as all hell!!
    ...to be specific...

    I love this song!

Oh, yeah, it's basically about the bankers trying to get little Michael to invest his one little tuppence in the bank. They're talking to him as if he's a grown man. They're telling him about all these things that he does not care about. To be specific, they want him to invest in the Dawes Tomes Mousely Grubbs Fidelity Fiduciary Bank. And if I'm not mistaken, he gives him money to the bird lady.

    **Damn, those sweet memories**

General CommentActually, his refusal to let the banker (played masterfully by Dick Van Dyke) causes a run on the bank. BTW: Dick Van Dyke is getting a much deserved SAG lifetime achievement 27 Jan 2012 . His performances in Mary Poppins and Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang are two very good reasons for this award.
