When I counted up my demons
Saw there was one for every day
With the good ones on my shoulders
I drove the other ones away

So if you ever feel neglected
And if you think that all is lost
I'll be counting up my demons, yeah
Hoping everything's not lost

When you thought that it was over
You could feel it all around
And everybody's out to get you
Don't you let it drag you down

'Cause if you ever feel neglected
And if you think that all is lost
I'll be counting up my demons, yeah
Hoping everything's not lost

If you ever feel neglected
If you think that all is lost
I'll be counting up my demons, yeah
Hoping everything's not lost

Singing out oh, oh, oh, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Everything's not lost

So come on, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Come on, yeah
And everything's not lost

Oh, oh, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
And everything's not lost

Come on, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Come on, yeah

Come on, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Come on, yeah
And everything's not lost

Sing out, yeah
Oh, oh, yeah
Come on, yeah
And everything's not lost

Come on, yeah
Oh, oh yeah
Sing out, yeah
And everything's not lost

Now I never meant to do you wrong
That's what I came here to say
But if I was wrong, then I'm sorry
I don't let it stand in our way
'Cause my head just aches when I think of
The things that I shouldn't have done
But life is for living, we all know
And I don't want to live it alone

Sing out, ah ah
Sing ah ah ah
And just sing ah ah ah ah ah

you are and i am stronger than the demons of insecurity, fear, doubt, anger, frustration, jealousy. and if you emphasize the demons of optimism, strength, confidence, and love you will not be let down. its all a matter of doing it....

this song along many others from coldplay has a way of making you zone out of your problems and travel on a euphoric adventure of musical greatness. the amazing lyrics coupled with chris's soothing voice is an experience that can't receive it's proper justice from my words. it would take coldplay themselves to write a song describing the feeling you get when listening to their music.. someone also said earlier that there is no need for drugs or alcohol, just pop in some coldplay... i concur

I just love the way how Coldplay songs, and especially this song, can lift you up. That the song slowly moves from an depressive to a more optimistic sound. It first connects to your sad feelings(if you feel depressed) like it understands you. A great!! song!

I can't believe that no one else has commented this song. I think that this song is very well written and I like it a lot. I think that it has a nice little Emo sound to it and I enjoy listening to it a lot. I think that Coldplay is a pretty good band. They have some good usic with a nice Emo toon to it. At least that's wut I think. Well I just thought this song was pretty good and it suprised me when I saw that no one really had commented this song. O well I guess. I'm really into Emo and Old Skool Punk and I think that the instrumental and lyrics to this song are Emo in a way so that's like one of the main reasons I like it.:) ~aMbEr*

Shudder to Think
This song is timeless, and nearly 20 years after its creation, still possesses the mystique it did the first time i heard it ~1994. To me, at first blush, all those years ago, it had some kind of homo-erotic allure. The line "so that the others may do" tells of something which must be done for others to follow suit. It felt like like some kind of roxy-glam-pop invitation to sexual liberation. Upon further introspection I think the song may not have an intrinsic meaning, but simply represents a sort of "holding open the door" for people who otherwise might be affronted by this song/band's unusual style. I know, as a sort of armchair rock-historian, that there have been few bands so daring and so true to the sound that wanted to emerge from within, whether the creator wanted it or not. This band handled it with elegance and grace seldom, if ever, seen.
