Brothers and sisters unite
It's the time of your lives its the time of your lives
Break down, break down
Got to spread love around, got to spread it around

Brothers and sisters feel fine
It's the time of your lives, it's the time of your lives
There's no sound, no sound
Like this feeling you found like this feeling you found

But just stay down
Cause sometimes you feel
So stay down
And sometimes you feel
And it's me they're lookin' for
And it's me, I will never survive
But we'll be around some more

Brothers and sisters unite
It's the time of your lives, it's the time of your lives
Breakdown, breakdown
Got to spread love around, got to spread it all around

But just stay down
And sometimes you feel
So stay around
And sometimes you'll feel
And it's me they're looking for
And it's me, I will never survive
But well be around some more

It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright
It's gonna be alright

First single...yes. great song from his early angsty days. bigger, stronger, such a rush, animals...basically a bunch of complaints about the world that, luckily (and purposefully), didn't show up in parachutes. The song seems to depict a very dramatic, even romanticly powerful war scene fit for the next WWII epic. Fear, uncertainty, and other emotions mixed up in the desire to survive in such scary times...whether or be a soldier or a civilian. It doesn't have to be about war though, but a variety of things. The search for jews in WWII germany is just an example.

This reminds me of graduation. And of adolecence. How we should all stop being so dumb and hating and have fun.

What an anthemic song! The guitar line is heavenly. It's one of my favorite Coldplay songs, I wish they'd produce more songs with this feel. There seems to be re-occuring theme of runnning away from something evil in a lot of their songs.

it's almost spiritual... it's a statement to just focus on our souls instead of getting lost in the insignificant tangible aspects of our lives...

I love this song, it symbolises the bond between those who are equal, and those who also deserve a good life.

Although I understand what people have said before me about this song, I have a completely different interpretation of this song. So far everyone's said that this song is a happy loving song, however, I think that there is a double meaning with lines such as "just stay down" it's me they're looking for" and "I will never survive. The way I can most relate this song is through schindler's list where the prisoner Jews are released and "unite" together again with the joy of meeting but they are still under strict orders and believe that they will be hunted down again. I cant fully explain what I feel but I hope you get the double meaning I feel with this song. Coldplay are amazing, my fav song is Green eyes but I dont like their new Album X&Y. Its a bit too camp.

bla bla but what about the song?? Haha.. somehow it reminds me of Jesus talking to His disciples... ok don't kick me for being religious... but somehow it does.... just read it again (i hope this doesn't screw the song for you) But seriously... it DOES have to do something with "spreading love around"... And euhm.. i interpret the lyrics this way: Brothers and sisters feel fine It's the time of your lives It's the time of your lives No sound, no sound Light this feeling you've found Light this feeling you've found So anymore meanings?

Shudder to Think
This song is timeless, and nearly 20 years after its creation, still possesses the mystique it did the first time i heard it ~1994. To me, at first blush, all those years ago, it had some kind of homo-erotic allure. The line "so that the others may do" tells of something which must be done for others to follow suit. It felt like like some kind of roxy-glam-pop invitation to sexual liberation. Upon further introspection I think the song may not have an intrinsic meaning, but simply represents a sort of "holding open the door" for people who otherwise might be affronted by this song/band's unusual style. I know, as a sort of armchair rock-historian, that there have been few bands so daring and so true to the sound that wanted to emerge from within, whether the creator wanted it or not. This band handled it with elegance and grace seldom, if ever, seen.
