"Chrome Plated Heart" as written by and Melissa Etheridge....
I got a chrome-plated heart
I got wings on these fingers trying to tear it apart
I got angels crying from up above
And they got rust in their eyes
They got rust on their love
But I have learned to leave no stone unturned
And keep the wall against my back
And the love is real as the day is long
And the night is black
As black as night

I got a two dollar stare
Midas in my touch and Delilah in my hair
I got bad intentions on the soles of my shoes
With this red hot fever and these chromium blues
And I will feel another lovers wheel
And drive for miles and not look back
And the love is real as the day is long
And the night is black
As black as night

On my chrome-plated heart
Wings on these fingers trying to tear it apart
I got angels crying from up above
And they got rust in their eyes
They got rust on their love
And the only way I know where the train will go
Is when I'm sleeping on the tracks
And the love is real as the day is long
And the night is black
As black as night
And the night is black
As black as night

My InterpretationMy interpretation is this i'll try to to break it down First verse: i think that the chrome plated heart means that she has a shield of protection around her heart so that she will not be hurt again and the angels crying with rust in their eyes means of a heartbreak that she continues to suffer but she has learned to leave nothing to chance "no stone unturned" and to keep standing in the face of fear, but the love is real as the day is long but the night is black indicating that it's still night so it's not real.Second verse: The two dollar stare is somebody who has a wandering eye and the midas in my touch means that everything that she touches turns to gold and that she has everything to become successful and the delilah in her hair is the one who has taken away her strength and her secrets and has brought down her self confidence but she keeps walking with this almost defiant attitude that she can overcome the heartache by meeting someone else.Third verse: The only way i know where the train will go is when i'm sleeping on the tracks this means that the only way she will know how the relationship will turn out is if she know's where she stands with her lover and the direction of where the relationship is going.

General CommentThe viewpoint character has lost the capacity for love. She's a hard-hearted seducer with a wandering eye. Her love is as real as the day is long...but it's night.

General CommentProbalby my fav from the first album. I highly recommend the version she does on her solo concert. She really jams out to this one.
