Wide eyed
Knee deep in surprise
Just below your thighs
The temperature drops 5 degrees
Your stand-by flight
Has just arrived

Tongue-tied
Bleeding from your eyes
Even Christ himself
Would cringe at the sight of your scars
While you’re counting sheep
I'll count my lucky stars

You were the last good thing I ever saw
I lost it all
I lost it all!

Burned out on 2 hours of shut eye
Eyes glazed at the thought of the next 8 hours
Headwind
Cold rain to wake me

You were the last good thing I ever saw

Me too! Great song. My favorite line is "even Christ himself would cringe at the sight of your scars." I dunno why but that's the line that gets me.

this is easily one of the trio's best songs. and all these damn people and them liking the new album. compared to alkaline trio's older shit the new album is a travesty people should just listen to cringe and admire how amazing they were on this record.

I totally agree with emokid5, the new album is shit compared to the older stuff. Private Eye doesn't come close to My Little Needle or Fuck You Aurora or Cringe. My favorite line in the song is "Headwind, cold rain to wake me". They're fucking great and are so talented it's amazing. The lyrics are all so much more and they rock so hard live.

Man, I love this song, although I think FHTI is a good album too. I have a video someone did of them playing this one in concert, and it is so good. Man, I just can't get enough of this song. it is friggin awesome

You know what bothers me? When people are like "ohh older stuff is so much better than their new shit...blah blah blah..." Seriously, it's the same band. Maybe their new stuff sounds a littler different but you gotta have change or it would get so boring listening to the same old stuff. God Dammit is their best CD, but FHTI is pretty good to, and far from "shit"

I agree as well, every album Alkaline Trio have bought out has been amazing, there's not one shit one. It's just 'cause he's pretending to be a hardcore fan and saying the new stuff's shit because more people know them from Stupid Kid. Anyway this song is pretty average for and Alkaline song which to any other band means fucking amazing. Top quality.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.

Somewhere Only We Know
Keane
Per the FAQ on Keane's website, Keane's drummer Richard Hughes, stated the following: "We've been asked whether "Somewhere Only We Know" is about a specific place, and Tim has been saying that, for him, or us as individuals, it might be about a geographical space, or a feeling; it can mean something individual to each person, and they can interpret it to a memory of theirs... It's perhaps more of a theme rather than a specific message... Feelings that may be universal, without necessarily being totally specific to us, or a place, or a time..." With the nostalgic sentiment and the overall tone of the song, I think Keane is attempting to express a Portuguese term known as 'saudade', which does not have a direct English translation but roughly means "that which we remember because it is gone."
