I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
He likes to act like he's all grown up
He wanted to grow up to be an actor
But he never told anybody
He likes to spill all of his guts
On the top of a well stocked bar
And then swallow them bit by bit remembering every scar
As a valid reason for every drink
And a new tattoo is a new reason to think
He likes to pretend that he is all sewn up
It makes for a much stronger case
But there is blood underneath that skin
That scar is not so easy to erase
He walks with a glass cane now
He's careful when holding his body up straight
Can't go outside when it's raining
Can't smash up that beautiful face
Another innocent girl just made his list
That self pity shit is just too hard too resist
And when we get home
you'll see that this part of him is now part of me
And its way too easy to fake this smile lead you on
Maybe I'm wrong but everyone gets bored once in awhile
He wanted to grow up to be an actor
But he never told anybody
He likes to spill all of his guts
On the top of a well stocked bar
And then swallow them bit by bit remembering every scar
As a valid reason for every drink
And a new tattoo is a new reason to think
He likes to pretend that he is all sewn up
It makes for a much stronger case
But there is blood underneath that skin
That scar is not so easy to erase
He walks with a glass cane now
He's careful when holding his body up straight
Can't go outside when it's raining
Can't smash up that beautiful face
Another innocent girl just made his list
That self pity shit is just too hard too resist
And when we get home
you'll see that this part of him is now part of me
And its way too easy to fake this smile lead you on
Maybe I'm wrong but everyone gets bored once in awhile

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Trouble Breathing

Alkaline Trio
While the obvious connections with suicide or alcoholism could be drawn easily, more subtly this song could be about someone who views the world through a negative lens constantly and how as much as the writer tries to show the beauty in the world, this person refuses to see it. It's one or another between the rope and the bottle. There is no good option for this person. They can't see it. Skiba sings it in a kind of exasperated way like He's tired of hearing this negative view constantly and just allowing that person to continue feeling the way they feel knowing he can't do anything about it. You can hear it when he says maybe you're a vampire.

Somewhere Only We Know
Keane
Keane
Per the FAQ on Keane's website, Keane's drummer Richard Hughes, stated the following:
"We've been asked whether "Somewhere Only We Know" is about a specific place, and Tim has been saying that, for him, or us as individuals, it might be about a geographical space, or a feeling; it can mean something individual to each person, and they can interpret it to a memory of theirs... It's perhaps more of a theme rather than a specific message... Feelings that may be universal, without necessarily being totally specific to us, or a place, or a time..."
With the nostalgic sentiment and the overall tone of the song, I think Keane is attempting to express a Portuguese term known as 'saudade', which does not have a direct English translation but roughly means "that which we remember because it is gone."

Sunglasses at Night
Corey Hart
Corey Hart
In the 1980s, sunglasses were a common fashion for people who wanted to adopt a "tough guy" persona (note all the cop shows from that era -- Simon & Simon, Miami Vice, etc. -- where the lead characters wore shades). So I think this song is about a guy who wears shades as a way of hiding his insecurity after learning that his girlfriend is cheating on him. He's trying to pretend that he's a "tough guy" to hide the fact that his girlfriend's affair is disturbing him.
seriously. hey, i talked to you today! thats crazy.... . . . . . . . . . . .
I think Emo_ezralite is more on to something. He's not violent. He's a schmuck who blames all of his problems on other people -- specifically girls who he thinks have fucked him over.
I don't know if it's about him being violent. I think the guy in the song is trying to get people to pity him. He tried to commit suicide by hurting himself (the scar, the hurt back). The thing is, he never really wanted to kill himself, he just wanted attention. The innocent girl is the one that pitied him. She's being drawn in because he is lying to himself, and to everyone else about his depression.
i love this song. the vocals totally grabbed at my heart. as for meaning loserdork up there pretty much nailed it. i love the lines: "He likes to pretend that he is all sewn up It makes for a much stronger case But there is blood underneath that skin That scar is not so easy to erase"
he's tryin to fool everyone, including himself and forget the past. pretty relatable.
i like to take songs line by line but i think this song is about the kind of guy that is well into college or out of it but he hangs on to everything he learned in HS by watching sleezy guys hit on girls. he goes to a different bar every night trying to be a dark depressed figure drinking and smoking.
He likes to act like he's all grown up (he likes to act mature) He wanted to grow up to be an actor But he never told anybody (he feeds something like this to every girl he meets, "you know i never told anybody this before but i always wanted to grow up to be an actor " OR maybe he did want to grow up to be an actor and that's why he can run lines on girls so good, probably the 2nd one) He likes to spill all of his guts On the top of a well stocked bar (he likes to drink and "tell everything" to the girl) And then swallow them bit by bit remembering every scar As a valid reason for every drink (as he remembers his old psychological scars he uses them as an excuse to drink, "i deserve this after what i've been through") And a new tattoo is a new reason to think (he defines himself through an image he projects onto people) He likes to pretend that he is all sewn up It makes for a much stronger case (he pretends his past is behind him and that he doesn't let it get to him) But there is blood underneath that skin That scar is not so easy to erase (but he's human, he can't let all of his past go) He walks with a glass cane now He's careful when holding his body up straight Can't go outside when it's raining Can't smash up that beautiful face (he's careful now that he has his own image, he chooses to not let anyone know him) Another innocent girl just made his list That self pity shit is just too hard too resist (some girl falls for his self pity act) And when we get home you'll see that this part of him is now part of me (this lines a little harder can't really tell who's perspective this is since he isn't the "barguy" or the "innocent girl" unless the perspective changes for the final lines but i'd assume it's after the bar guy "takes the girl home" she realizes what happened ) And its way too easy to fake this smile lead you on Maybe I'm wrong but everyone gets bored once in awhile (it's all the bar guy knows what else would he do?)
Yeah, this song is about how keeping up appearances corrupts and fucks us up. Very, very sad song. But I love the trio. They kick serious ass!
i like this song... but honestly i'm not really sure w/ its meaning
Some parts, not all of them kind of remind me of me. Because though I am fifteen, I can act so childish, [like my obsession with toys, and cartoons]. And sometimes when I am sad my only comfort is drinking coke out of a burben glass..hehe, but like..I dont know why, I just like this song alot.
good song...talks about how he is so down and he turns to alcohol and how he is hurting people by this. "he likes to pretend he's all sewn up"
i think this song is baout how people let the other people they are involved with blind them from what they really want to do with their life. he didn't pursue his real dreams because he was too busy screwing around
