I've seen the yellow lights go down the Mississippi
I've seen the bridges of the world and they're for real
I've had a red light of the wrist
Without me even gettin' kissed
It still seems so unreal

I've seen the morning in the mountains of Alaska
I've seen the sunset in the east and in the west
I've sang the glory that was Rome
And passed the hound-dog singer's home
It still seems for the best

And I'm far, far away
With my head up in the clouds
And I'm far, far away
With my feet down in the crowds
Lettin' loose around the world
But the call of home is loud
Still is loud

I've seen the Paris lights from high upon Montmartre
And felt the silence hanging low in No-Man's-Land
And all those spanish nights were fine
It wasn't only from the wine
It still seems all in hand

And I'm far, far away
With my head up in the clouds
And I'm far, far away
With my feet down in the crowds
Lettin' loose around the world
But the call of home is loud
Still is loud

I've seen the yellow lights go down the Mississippi
The grand Bahama island stories carry on
And all those arigato smiles
Stay in your memory for a while
There still seems more to come

And I'm far, far away
With my head up in the clouds
And I'm far, far away
With my feet down in the crowds
Lettin' loose around the world
But the call of home is loud
Still is loud

And I'm far, far away
With my head up in the clouds
And I'm far, far away
With my feet down in the crowds
And I'm far, far away
But the sound of home is loud
Still is loud

I genuinely like this song. It has meaningful lyrics and a great glam-rock tune. In my opinion, the lyrics explain how one can travel the world over and visit some of the most amazing places, but, ultimately, home is the place we love the most. Great song and an amazing band!

Noddy wrote the lyrics while they were on tour in America and he was literally looking over the red lights of the Mississippi.

This song was played at my Uncle's funeral a couple of days ago. He grew up as a massive Slade fan and this song was absolutely perfect for the occasion. He is now unfortunately far, far away but the call of home will always be as loud. Rest in peace David.

I doubt the 2 and 3. why rhyme real to unreal? why talk about a wrist? My version: I've seen the yellow lights go down the Mississippi I've seen the preachers of the world in Theophoreal I've had a red light affairiste Without me even gettin' kissed It still seems so unreal

Zombie
Cranberries, The
"Zombie" is about the ethno-political conflict in Ireland. This is obvious if you know anything of the singer (Dolores O'Riordan)'s Irish heritage and understood the "1916" Easter Rising reference. "Another head hangs lowly Child is slowly taken And the violence caused such silence Who are we mistaken - Another mother's breaking Heart is taking over" Laments the Warrington bomb attacks in which two children were fatally injured on March 23rd, 1993. Twelve year old Tim Parry was taken off life support with permission from his mother after five days in the hospital, virtually braindead. "But you see it's not me It's not my family" References how people who are not directly involved with the violence feel about it. They are "zombies" without sympathy who refuse to take action while others suffer.

Alma Matters
Morrissey
The man has pseudo-friends who constantly criticize his actions. They moralize him, "teach" him and advise him to make a significant change in his life, because the way he is and what he does is not what they say it should be. They may find his life lame or immoral. They hold themselves up as role models. The man replies that he will make his own choices and decisions and he does not agree to unconditionally make himself under the influence of questionable quality advice. He justifies this by saying that there is always someone for whom he will be important, no matter what he does and no matter what he is. Although it is not said directly, I read it as meaning that he will always be important to himself in every way and he will always have his own support. "Everyone is different and maybe that's a good thing, but you exceeded that mark 1000 times" - I remember very well how sad the words I once heard (from my peers and it was in negative context) at school made me feel.
