What was it I was thinking,
or was I even thinking at all?
When I think of what I thought back then,
then I'm ashamed;
and I'm appalled that I gave up all I was so easily.
Living your life is not for me.
I won't be sedated,
I won't be sedated!
Give me a little taste and I know I won't want more.
I won't be sedated, stability is overrated.
Give me the disorder I adore.
I can't be a part, be a part,
I can't be a part.
I can't be a part,
be a part of your modern world.
I've gotta be apart, be apart,
I've gotta be apart.
I've gotta be apart.
I can't grasp the values that you hold.
What was it you were thinking,
or were you even thinking at all?
When I think of what you thought of me,
I take offense;
and I'm appalled that you could discount all I love so easily.
Living our life is not for me.

    General Commentthis song is saying that you shouldnt become part of the crowd and live by standards and morals that are not your own. you should never take shame for being yourself.

    General CommentPunk in drublic says.... I agree with artica, but I'll branch out from that and say that you don't have to be a part of the cool crowd to be a good person. That the preppie cool kids are more sadated and focused on the wrong thing, and it's different for different people but you know what I mean...
    "Living your life is not for me" interpretation= youre way of life, worring about cool clothes, etc. is not how I am and not what I want to do.
    "I won't be sedated" interp.= I won't follow you and become your sheep.
    "When I think of what you thought of me, I take offence; and I'm appauled that you could discount all I love so easily." interp. = when I think how you thought I was some sort of loser, I'm offended because it was who I am, and I loved it that way and you just didn't care.. etc.

    General Commentwow, you guys are all off.. this song is about erica and me, and how i changed all my values for her, and now that we are no longer together, i realized what i gave up for her ,and im appalled... so i guess it could apply to being apart of the cowd... but i think can be applied on a personal level... knowing AFI it is religious , and is about morals , and the crowd= worldy people... so there is it....:)

    General CommentThis is definatly about the in crowd and how most people drink and try drugs or whatever, related to his straight edge views. In high school and stuff he never took part in any of that and still doesnt to this day!

    General CommentYeah, this song is most definitely about being blinded by drugs and alcohol, and being strong in your beliefs and actions.

    General CommentThis was one of my favorite AFI songs growing up, and now that I really look at it I can see it as being more open to interpretation than just a SxE song, it could even be the opposite. Most Straight-edgers will never really understand that though. "I won't be sedated" doesn't mean I won't be on drugs because a lot of drugs do the exact opposite (stimulants), and everything else is very open and only about not conforming or feeling ashamed of how you felt before. SxEers feel like they're not conforming by using drugs, drug users feel they're not conforming because they use drugs which isn't the norm. SxEers may feel ashamed for past drug use or thinking drugs might have been cool at some point and be ashamed of this now that their views have been changed, drug users may feel ashamed they used to put others down for drug use before they tried or understood it. But it could also be thought of a relationship or anything really, so maybe the title does really suit it.
