1:15 began with a phone ring
i heard i stirred
but i wasn't hurt
tonight's linesare yours to keep
go back to sleep
and that's wonderful
when your world at it's worst seems bearable
is it not so terrible to stay
and terrible to say
why won't you change
and walk into the rain
while we splash and play
it will behere forever
while every-one's so convinced they
know everything is true
all i believe in is you
I do
it was a wonderful puddle that i played in
and i was so young when it hit me:
in no one you can believe
but that's terrible
when these evil white lies make hysterical
habit forming beautiful
i miss my friends they live next door
but insincerity is so hard to ignore
it was a wonderful puddle that we
played in and at two and a half
we hit back
isn't that wonderful
so wonderfl
that as they gather round our grave to splash and play
they'll say why'd you have to change
andwalk into the same
where the dirty rain drains
you're gone in the morning
everything is so convinced
they know everything is true
all i believe in is you.
I do. (x3)
I believe in ...

A puddle is something that is small and not permanant. The wonderful puddle seems to be a young romance that was nothing more than small and temporary.

This song I REALLY love. And yes to me it does seem to be about being in love with someone whom everyone knows won't work in the end. But he doesn't care, he just wants to enjoy it for as long as it last. Though I don't understand the very ending. The whole grave thing.

i just always thought it was about being younger and learning that friends come and go. kids play in puddles when it rains. right? i mean, not every song has to be about relationships.

I think this song is about losing a best friend. A friend that was really close to Bob in his early years and then drifted away because of something sketchy like drugs or prostitution. Well probably not prostitution. But when he lost that friend, he not only realized that he was so important. But also, he has a lot of work to do on himself until he feels right about the whole situation.

These lyrics are a bit wrong. I'm probably just being nit-picky, but I think it changes the meaning a bit:

1/15 began with a phone ring I heard and I stirred but I wasn't hurt. Tonight's lines are yours to keep go back to sleep and that's wonderful when your world at it's worst seems bearable but it's not so terrible to stay... terrible to say why won't you change and walk into the rain used to love to splash and play it will be here forever; every- one's so convinced they know everything is true all i believed in was you. I do. I do. I do. I do... believe in you.

I agree with mschwab, this song is about seeing someone you grew up with turn into an addict (see "evil white LINES make hysterical habit forming beautiful"). When you're young and playing in puddles you have all the promise in the world, to be different and do anything, but this person fell into "the same... where the dirty rain drains," and the friend could be dead because of it. I think they may not be dead yet, because he still believes in them and hopefully that they can overcome it. Either that or they have died and he still believes in what they were not what they became.

Also this tends to fit in with Bob Nanna's passion for writing about childhood, the past, nostalgia, etc. If you ever have read his blogs or Threadless posts, he leads you to believe that he's very focused on the past and incidents that make him remember the past. So it's pretty likely that a friend's drug addiction made him remember how simple life used to be. Sad song but there's still a bit of hope there. And also, his friends live right nextdoor but he can't reach them (or at least one of them) because of addiction possibly.

This song hit me like a sack of bricks to the head today. The lines about white lies, insincerity, and especially a puddle being something "small and impermanent" ... it all sounds like a group of extremely close friends that drifted apart, perhaps as a result of drugs, or maybe something less obvious, like suspicious-mindedness. I tend towards the latter.

This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
