General CommentI agree, it is a sad song... When you're in love, it's hard to picture the relationship ending, or being alone. And then, when something goes wrong you're lost.. because, well... that wasn't supposed to happen to you........ i think that's what stevie wonder is trying to convey... by asking simply, "Why didn't you stay," he shows his vulnerability, confusion and pain.... I love this song

General Commentlike pryncess said . youu never expect love to end . in my case i knew it was a dead end from the jump because the other person is in a relationship . but when you're in love . nothing can stop youu . and when it does finally end . youu are left alone wonderin why . cause youu never dreamed this would happen . cause wordd up . i thought youu would go . then come backk home ='[ . ... now i find myself all alone .

General CommentMy wife died in summer. I never expected her to go away. Now I am left to carry on alone in the cold of winter.

General CommentA truly sad song that would bring tears to the eyes of anyone who has lost anyone that they love!

General CommentI think the song is about the death of his mother? Not a torch song about fickle romantic love gone wrong but rather a song about someone dying. A deep sorrowful melancholy, it is really quite beautiful.
