She woke up today expecting to be only let down
because she found her excuse for not being happy.
seventeen years of holding on only to figure out
that the reason she was there was not to be free

He choked as he walked with his future in his
heart while he gambled his remaining feeling.
A stake so high that he was certain he would
risk a disatster which would have him kneeling

He stumbled with his clumsy feet as he approached
a portrait so perfect he struggled to breathe.
A sweet harmony of flesh and rose sweetened his
love for art and for beautiful scenes.

Her life light broke through a crack in the floor
and his breath stopped
distance betwen thier lips too small to record
So they layed on the grass
While they saved each other
Evening Dew damped his pants
He read her mind with no disguise
So she stared at his eyes
'so why do I love you so much my friend?
your my angel to guide my way
I hope that this night will never end
on this perfect night in may

He held her hand for as long as he could remember
that night brought his battered heart to the stars
wanted thier night to never end but last forever
So he could sit and always hold her in his arms

But the time came too soon when they had to part
a recognized meledoy teased the mood they shared
She put her hand on his chest and touched his heart
'i love you' was her beatuiful last words he heard

A man drowned out by his fear of life dies at twenty
He swerved to the right and hit an oncomming car
Killed by his habit for drinking his money
Deserved every inch of his scars

The young man watched his blood meet someone else
the sweet hue of the inevitable mirrored the sky
A gorgeous girl's life shattered in a single pulse
And torn from her love and aged out of time

A prince stopped breathing as his muse layed to rest
but he refused to die
Instead he only did what thought he knew best
So he layed on their grass
he tried to be brave
nighttime mist soiled his tears
he moved his face from his arms
And he stared at the stars
'why do you steal these gifts to my heaven?
please send angels to guide her way
And maybe ill get to meet her again
Because i will be up there someday'

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
