I love this song but I can't begin to interpret the meaning. It just has such beautiful lyrics -"...through the streets of long gone dreams"...
Dogs could represent unfulfilled but abandoned desires.
The first lyric sets the song up as coming to terms with the fading of a recent relationship. 2nd lyric speaks of longing and loneliness as life goes on, seemingly more without her now. With winter representing a perception of the prime of her relationship life, the song speaks of that prime passing, ravaged by the changing seasons of life, her cares now care less and send up their mournful howls in her heart.
I pulled this song out of the back of my head this morning. I can not recall hearing it anytime recently. It just came to me so I looked it up trying to remember what it was. I am surprised at how I can see my life through it. I have moved beyond dreaming and cold nights but the feeling still lingers at times. In a non-relationship perspective I can see the song translating into more personal dreams and desires that did not ever seem to materialize despite the confidence and intensity of the emotions involved in the time spent enjoying them.
