Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
OMG This song is amazing! I remember listening to it as a kid, and not really knowing the meaning...but now, oh it means so much to me. It reminds me of me and my husband before we got married, we were lovers and sneaking around behind closed doors cus I was taken at the time...and he had never had this kind of relationship before..."Well, I don't know what love is You haven't and you have no time for it You feel completely indifferent"...and he tolerated me and my ex for the longest time..."Well, it's hard to be civil and it's Real hard to be nice But you did it, my love, everytime"....and then after a while I ended up leaving my guy and being with him instead..."So today she says, "well, I've changed my mind" That's a woman's right, ..." This song is just packed full with emotion...and I think that it does have something to do with seeing someone else while being attatched, and she wants her lover now and right then, with no questions asked.
