I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
When I see him, I feel him
There's an intenseness
In him, in his eyes
He wants me to be with him
He wants me with him now
She just seems to be missing
How could that happen anyhow?
So how can you say
Well, I don't know what love is
You haven't and you have no time for it
You feel completely indifferent
You feel pushed up against the wall
And then one day it just almost goes away
You spend lots of time alone
Sometimes you spend years
And you just miss those arms that used to go around you
Night after night,
No questions asked and
Who cares, the cold wind of it all, everytime
Well, it's hard to be civil and it's
Real hard to be nice
But you did it, my love, everytime
So how can you say, well, I can't see you
Not now, not tomorrow, not until it's right
Not until
None of us is pushed up against the wall
I don't know, the cold wind doesn't get you anymore
So today she says, "well, I've changed my mind"
That's a woman's right, they say
Well, I'm frightened and I'm lost and I
Can't give you up, not now, I need you now
I'm broken-hearted, broke down
Like a little girl
Well, I need you now, well, I'm broken hearted
Well, I broke down, like a little girl
(I need you now no questions asked)
Well I broke down like a little girl
(I need you now no questions asked)
I broke down like a little girl
(Need you now no questions asked)
I broke down like a little girl
Well like a little girl
(Need you now no questions asked)
Like a little girl

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

In the 1980s, sunglasses were a common fashion for people who wanted to adopt a "tough guy" persona (note all the cop shows from that era -- Simon & Simon, Miami Vice, etc. -- where the lead characters wore shades). So I think this song is about a guy who wears shades as a way of hiding his insecurity after learning that his girlfriend is cheating on him. He's trying to pretend that he's a "tough guy" to hide the fact that his girlfriend's affair is disturbing him.
This song always has a whiny, bratty quality to it when listened to. I think that was the point though. That Stevie wants her lover and wants him now. She wants to play the role of the little girl and her lover as a sort of comforting father figure to her. I could get into corny pop Freudian psychology on this, but that would be overkill... Strangely, I still like the song.
The song was written about Lindsey Buckingham like the majority of Stevie's songs are. You have to understand the history between Stevie and Lindsey and then you'll began to understand the meaning of their songs, which tend to be about each other. The song, "No Questions Asked" is no exception. The time period was 1988 and Lindsey had left the band only months earlier mid -1987, after the completion of the "Tango in the Night" album. His departure from Fleetwood Mac was an acrimonious one and by all accounts it got physical between Stevie and Lindsey. Needless to say the animosity between them would wane, as indicated by Lindsey's appearance at Mick Fleetwood's wedding in April / 1988. Lindsey and Stevie posed for a photograph at the wedding and it was clear the two had made amends. This is also the time period, when Stevie's health and personal life would be in shambles. She was plagued with drug and alcohol abuse, along with depression. Her escape was her song writing, which often took her back to happier times, when her and Lindsey were a happy couple living together in the late 60's and early 70's (in San Francisco). They had nothing but each other and had remained that way for the better part of 7 years, before joining Fleetwood Mac. The song "No Questions Asked" are about the moments, when Stevie simply misses Lindsey being around. How she can't escape his "hold on her," and the same could be said about Lindsey too. The two could go years without speaking but always tend to gravitate back to one another, which is exactly what happened in 1993. Fleetwood Mac was offered a chance to play at the President Clinton's inauguration but the problem was Lindsey was no longer part the band and the Clintons wanted the "core" five (Mick, John, Christine, Stevie, and Lindsey) present. It was Stevie, who convinced Lindsey to play at the inauguration, which at first Lindsey said no, but Stevie threatened that she would never speak to him again, if he ruined this opportunity for her. Lindsey conceded. Stevie's song "Blue Denim" describes how, after the inauguration concert was over, Lindsey departed without really saying a word. These two have been continuing their "doomed" love affair through their music, which Stevie has described as a testament to their love for each other. In 1997, Lindsey would rejoin the band for the album "The Dance." They (Fleetwood Mac) would go on to release another album in 2003 "Say You Will" (without Christine McVie, who retired but would come back in 2014). And of course, Lindsey would be fired from the band in 2018, after Stevie gave the band an ultimatum "Lindsey or me," they chose the latter. Apparently, Lindsey and Stevie had gotten into yet another dispute over, who knows what, but it was serious enough to get Lindsey Fired. SOOOOOO, here we go again!
OMG This song is amazing! I remember listening to it as a kid, and not really knowing the meaning...but now, oh it means so much to me. It reminds me of me and my husband before we got married, we were lovers and sneaking around behind closed doors cus I was taken at the time...and he had never had this kind of relationship before..."Well, I don't know what love is You haven't and you have no time for it You feel completely indifferent"...and he tolerated me and my ex for the longest time..."Well, it's hard to be civil and it's Real hard to be nice But you did it, my love, everytime"....and then after a while I ended up leaving my guy and being with him instead..."So today she says, "well, I've changed my mind" That's a woman's right, ..." This song is just packed full with emotion...and I think that it does have something to do with seeing someone else while being attatched, and she wants her lover now and right then, with no questions asked. AMAZING SONG

He is married but his wife has left him so they fall in love. Wife comes back - her right to change her mind, leaving the singer broken hearted and alone, wanting him back.
I have read that this song can be about Tom Petty. And what would prove it are the lines "I broke down like a little girl" that would refer to Dylan's "Just Like a Woman" and Dylan and Petty were touring together and Stevie was with them then. But I cannot tell what I personally think about this song because I don't get this lyrics much :P I mean it's even fine but too cryptic for me and I cannot find a clue what it would be about. Some verses may be really about Petty but that's all :P
