Beautiful Child Lyrics
Beautiful child
You are a beautiful child
And I am a fool once more
The years disappeared
Much has gone by since then
I bite my lip, can you send me away
You touch
I have no choice
I have to stay
I had to stay
There is so little time
Your eyes say yes
But you don't say yes
I wish that you were mine
I wait for you to say, just go
Your hands, held mine so few hours
And I'm not a child anymore
I'm tall enough
To reach for the stars
I'm old enough
To love you from afar
To trusting... yes?
But then women usually are
No, I'm not a child, oh no
Tall enough to reach for the stars
I will do
As I'm told
Even if I never hold you again
I never hold you again
This song has it all: depth, the haunting voice, haunting melody. I think the whole Tusk album is underrated as a whole. :-(
I found some very interesting stuff about this song on http://www.fleetwoodmac.net/penguin/interpretations/b/beautifulchild.htm. None of it confirmed, but it sounds very likely and well-informed. It was from a lyric interpretation board on the fleetwood mac website, fans. Apparently Stevie Nicks, who wrote and sings this, had a relationship, secretly- for a long time, since she was young, with Mick Fleetwood, who is much older than she is. Even the band didn't know. She partly wants to leave, but is not independent enough or loves him too much to leave. At the end of the song she is grown and independent, but still struggles with letting go of her dependence on him. I found it mentioned on wikipedeia as well.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevie_Nicks) Other interpretation on the FM site was that, "She fell in love with someone beautiful, but immature (like a child). She feels like a fool for having fall in love with this man. This could also indicate that she fell in love easily throughout her life."
I've heard that this song is about the abortion Stevie Nicks had when she was young.

Is this song about Mick Fleetwood? Yes. Is this song about Lindsey Buckingham? Yes. Is this song about Don Henley? Yes. Is this song about the abortion she had of Don Henley's child? Yes.
That's the tough thing about pinpointing the meaning of Stevie's song, particularly on Tusk. They are free-form thoughts on whatever was going through her mind at the time. Take them as you would an impressionist painting, or just soak up the mood. The song is beautiful no matter what it really means.
@leamanc Actually, nope, nope, nope and nope. Stevie Nicks has verified this song is about an affair she had with an older Derek Taylor, who I believe was some PR guy for The Beatles. He was married (hence the "too trusting but then women usually are" line. http://somethingelsereviews.com/2013/05/20/it-affected-me-very-much-stevie-nicks-outlines-the-beatles-connection-in-fleetwood-macs-beautiful-child/

Her lyrics send sivers up my spine. I just wish I knew who she writes her songs for.
this song is the story of my life
its so beautiful and pure.. Fleetwood Mac is amazing
This song is just absolutely gorgeous. Stevie sings with such emotion.. her voice is untouchable.
I gather that this song is about a woman who is having an affair with a man she can't have, and she knows this, but she just can't help herself.
Ive heard this song was written for Mick Fleetwood. Angel was written for him too. They were involved, then he met and married Stevie's friend Sara. (dumped poor Stevie) Guess Sara did'nt know the girlfriend code. Im wondering if Sara is about THAT Sara? Ive read somewhere that Stevie used the name Sara as an alias at times~like when she went in rehab under the name Sara. Welcome To The Room Sara from Tango in the Night is about that rehab experience.
Love lost. Specifically the loss of virginity between a younger girl and an older man knowing that he will only love her for their short time together.
She enter as a child and a fool seeing many changes (in herself)
Your eyes say yes (that you love me ) But you don't say yes (when I asked if you love me)
I wish that you were mine (but you are not and will never be)
Your hands, held mine so few hours (we made love) And I'm not a child (a virgin) anymore
Love lost,but love not forgotten.
This song is soooo beautiful. When I first heard it, I was like "OMG, I wish I made a song like that." Absolutely spectacular.
This song takes me away when I hear it. I feel a part of it as corny as that may sound. I wish I knew the story behind this song. Amazing.
