    My Interpretation
    "I watch you when you are sleeping" No, the speaker is not a stalker. "watch" is as in "watch over" as in protect When one is asleep, one is unconscious and unaware. Thus: I protect you when you're not aware of things or basically it conveys a sense that the speaker is there for the loved one

    Colin played this on our first date over 20 years ago , and it makes me cry everytime I hear it as Colin sadly died 10th September 2002 but he will always be my Eternal Flame which will never burn out. Missing you always Colin , love you forevermore xxxxxxxxxxxx

    French kissed my first real girlfriend outside a café, overlooking the eiffel tower on this song. Probably 10.000.000 other teens did the same somewhere, sometime... but I swear: at that very time, at that very place, this song was playing just for us :) Almost 30 years later I can't help feeling melancholy, thinking about Sophie and the Eiffel Tower every time I hear this song

    Someone once told me it was about contracting an STD and wondering whether it was permanent. I'm sure that's not what they meant, but funny to read it that way.

    Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles said the inspiration was from their visit to Graceland where Elvis had lived. There is an "eternal flame" that is always burning near the grace site. On that day it was raining, the fire had been extinguished for a while on their visit to the site.

The man replies that he will make his own choices and decisions and he does not agree to unconditionally make himself under the influence of questionable quality advice. He justifies this by saying that there is always someone for whom he will be important, no matter what he does and no matter what he is. Although it is not said directly, I read it as meaning that he will always be important to himself in every way and he will always have his own support. "Everyone is different and maybe that's a good thing, but you exceeded that mark 1000 times" - I remember very well how sad the words I once heard (from my peers and it was in negative context) at school made me feel.
