So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.

maybe he has a girl in his life who he loved once and still loves, but she has become someone else, a deceiver, and it's hard for him to love her because he knows she lies and she is not the person who he fell for anymore, and he senses it but hasn't come around to it yet, so he doesn't know how to deal with it really
The song is sort of an indirect narrative of a French horror film called "Les Yeux Sans Visage," which of course means "Eyes Without A Face." In this film, a young girl's face is left horribly scarred by a car accident and her father, a surgeon, abducts other young girls and attempts to graft their skin onto his daughter's face. She wears a mask that reveals only her eyes (hence the title) and her father gradually goes insane. I think it's about a guy who has come to the realisation that his relationship is a lie and the woman is not the person he thought she was. She has no depth and once she decides the fun is over she moves on to the next thing/person and he sees her for who she really is. He's mourning a love that apparently never was anything more than superficial.
I think this song is about billy falling for a girl. But, she is a very sad girl hense, "eyes without a face". She used to have a soul but its almost gone now she's not mean she just fake and always sad. For example he's out of hope to tell her. But than she "calls him on the phone to tell him she's alone" and even though he doesnt want to go he goes anyways. At the end he says its such a, "human waste" I think he means she couldve been special but since so many things happened like billy said, "its just getting worse". So there's no way for this girl to get her feelings back shes just an empty soul. Anyways that's how i view the song please tell me if you have another opinion im very open.

I personally feel that the song is about the dood falling in love with someone who he believes cares about him. But Sadly, in reality she doesn't give a fock about him. Soon enough she starts going off like a tramp while he's still crazy over her. He finally realizes that she has changed.. But still wants to believe there is a connection somewhere. AND now finally when its over after he tried so hard to maintain his relationship does he realize what an atrocity she truely was. An insane wh0re with no personality who only looked for what could benift her.

I think it's about falling for someone for their looks and then realizing, too late, that they are cold inside.
yea i dont know what "eyes without a face" means either.. maybe it means she sees things but has no feelings? its a great song though.

Gosh, no one has commented on this song? This is about how he feels about a an ex-girlfriend of his, and he doesn't think much of her. I guess she's a liar and a cheat. But to be honest, I don't know what he means by accusing of her of having "eyes without a face." My guess is that ... oh geez it could be many things. She senses the world but doesn't truly express or feel anything. In other words, she is shallow. Anyone?
