You Better You Bet Lyrics
"...old T-Rex - who's next?"
Maybe... but it might (also?) be:
"...old T. Rex, and Who's Next."
That is: a reference to the band's earlier album Who's Next.
This song is presumably about a rock 'n roll relationship (either between two rockstars or one rockstar and someone who waits at home). He describes the rock n roll lifestyle and how it affects his relationship - e.g 'my voice too rough with cigarettes' and 'I sometimes think I should just go home'. It's obviously a very sexual relationship - You welcome me with open arms and open legs' - and when they see each other its for such a short time that most of it is spent passionately. Therefore when he says 'I love you' she says 'you'd better!' because otherwise their relationship would be JUST sexual, instead of a romantic relationship that simply isn't granted much of a chance due to long distance.
" I know that I been wearing crazy clothes and I look pretty crappy sometime But my body feels so good and I still sing a razor line everytime."
Favourite line. Great song.
I always wonder if Roger asked to change that line from the original "I still write a razor line every time." Or if Pete, knowing he was giving a man who didn't write those lyrics that line, just crossed out "write" and wrote-in "sing." He seems passive-aggressive like that. I completely agree. :)

@em_c In an interview, Daltrey said that he changed that part to "sing a razor line" on his own. Daltrey also added the reference to "Who's Next" after the "listening to the sound of old T-Rex" part. He said something about needing to promote Who albums as well as T-Rex in the song.

It's pretty clearly about a long distance relationship, or one in which they both travel a lot and don't see a lot of each other. "your passport picture" "all those letters" "a neon light for a visa"
It looks like the lyrics are slightly wrong here. The line actually says "To the sound of old T-Rex, and who's next". Who's next, being The Who's 1971 album. Which is pretty great reference that they are listening to their own album. Great song.
This song stuck in my head the last couple days for no reason at all, and I’ve pondered this:
“Your dog keeps licking my nose And chewing up all those letters Saying you better”
I think he’s saying here that he’s there so much that the dog is familiar with him and loves him, and is also saying that the words “you better” aren’t necessary anymore because his love is obvious now. Just my thoughts on an awesome song ☺️
The couple in the song are nicely dysfunctional, in that there's this power struggle but neither really minds. And hey, they listen to T. Rex, how bad can it be. I sing this one in public and ignore the stares.
haha, nice ramones reference. this song is awesome. its gets me up and going
"matsientst" so far is the most insightful. The song is pretty much about the "rock star" life: music (T-Rex/The Who), sex ("You welcome me with open arms and open legs"), drugs ("But my body feels so good and I still sing a razor line every time.... And when it comes to all night living)
I always thought this song was about a long distance relationship between a rockstar and someone else and all about the rockstar's life.
