The Beauty of the Rain Lyrics

And you know the light is fading all too soon
You're just two umbrellas one late afternoon
You don't know the next thing you will say
This is your favorite kind of day
It has no walls, the beauty of the rain
Is how it falls, how it falls, how it falls

And there's nothing wrong but there is something more
And sometimes you wonder what you love her for
She says you've known her deepest fears
'Cause she showed you a box of stained-glass tears
It can't be all, the truth about the rain
Is how it falls, how it falls, how it falls

But when she gave you more to find
You let her think she'd lost her mind
And that's all on you
Feeling helpless if she asked for help
Or scared you'd have to change yourself

And you can't deny this room will keep you warm.
You can look out of your window at the storm
But you watch the phone and hope it rings
You'll take her any way she sings
Or how she calls, the beauty of the rain
Is how it falls, how it falls, how it falls
How it falls, how it falls, how it falls

Ok, I just noticed that the lyrics in the first verse are somewhat wrong.

it actually goes like this:

And you know the light is fading all too soon You're just two umbrellas one late afternoon You don't know the next thing you will say This is your favorite kind of day It has no walls The beauty of the rain Is how it falls, how it falls, how it falls

"you'll take her any way she sings" I think this song revolves around realising that love is about the actual experience - good and bad. Because the beauty of the rain is not that it IS raining, it is about how it's falling. i.e how we love, and how that love isn't perfect all the time. The faults are what makes it beautiful. That's what true love is, ups and downs and occasionally wondering "what you love her for" but realising that the truth about love is deeper than just knowing each others fears and so on. It's the journey of loving one person for a lifetime that makes it special.

I see this as a relationship that's failing. "The light is fading all too soon." He's left carrying two umbrellas because she's not there with him.

The couple had deep feelings for each other. She showed him "her deepest fears", but for some reason, the relationship is not quite fulfilling. "It can't be all."

And then when they tried to repair it "She gave you more to find", he was too stubborn to respond to respond to her needs, and blamed the problems on her. "You let her think she'd lost her mind".

He didn't know how to handle it if she got emotional on him. "Feeling helpless if she asked for help or scared you'd have to change yourself "

The guy put up his walls to keep himself safe. "And you can't deny this room will keep you warm. You can look out of your window at the storm"

He's essentially looking at the relationship from the safety of his walls because he doesn't want to be in the rain. But he's also feeling the loss. He's desperately waiting for her to call because he wants her back. He'll "take her anyway way she sings."

Song Meaning

This song is a bit confusing, but I'll give it a shot. In the first verse, there are two lovers enjoying a day in the rain. In the second verse, the girl says the the guy knows her deeply, because she showed him all her fears. But he knows there's something more though, and knows it'll keep raining down on them. In the third verse, she finally opened up more but he wasn't ready and thinks he's not ready to deal with it all. In the last verse, he knows there's a place he could be safe from love's storms, but he'll answer when she calls him because he'll take the good with the bad.
