"Can't Give Up" as written by and Louis Knox Barlow....
I don't know how to sleep, I forgot how to eat
But I hail to the command
I took my only chance
All I ever wanted is just to know what's up
But when I try to fake it, I always fuck it up
The basement is haunted, my heart palpitates
I'm worried about something, my voodoo of the day
It should be easy, but it's hard to give it up
The way it used to be was just not happening enough
Crocodile tears, six-packs of beer
Denying, undenying
But no one knows I'm here (X3)

General CommentTo me this song means about wanting to know what is going on around you and not feeling accepted.

If you were to go deeper, I believe you could say that it is something more of the society. Like, Political reasons and wanting to know what is going on there. As if the person wants their voice to be heard. Yet maybe is just on unemployment checks and is divorced. Now lives in their parents basement...

But overall, I believe the feeling of being unheard are in these lyrics.

Song MeaningI reckon this song is about trying to give up weed, specifically, withdrawal after constant use. Certainly it correlates with the experience of many of my friends over the years.

    - can't sleep
    - not hungry
    - attempted over-compensation with alcohol
    - overly emotional

    Why quit?
    - paranoia about health (heart palpitations), haunted basement, various things (voodoo of the day)
    - needs it to sleep and eat
    - no longer as much fun

Makes sense I reckon. Great song too!
