This is a story about a girl named Lucky

Early morning, she wakes up
Knock, knock, knock on the door
It's time for make-up, perfect smile
It's you they're all waiting for
They go
Isn't she lovely, this Hollywood girl?
And they say

She's so lucky, she's a star
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
If there's nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night?

Lost in an image, in a dream
But there's no one there to wake her up
And the world is spinning, and she keeps on winning
But tell me what happens when it stops?
They go
Isn't she lovely, this Hollywood girl?
And they say

She's so lucky, she's a star
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
If there's nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night? (Oh)

(I, I, yeah, oh) Whoa
Best actress, and the winner is Lucky (whoa)
(I, I, yeah, oh) Whoa
I'm Roger Johnson for Pop News
Standing outside the arena waiting for Lucky
Oh my God here she comes

Isn't she lovely, this Hollywood girl?

She is so lucky, but why does she cry?
If there is nothing missing in her life
Why do tears come at night?

And they say she's so lucky (so lucky), she's a star
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
If there's nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night?

(She is) She's so lucky (so lucky)
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
If there's nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night?

I really love the lyrics to this song. I can relate to it. Not that i am a "hollywood girl", but i do find myself feeling trapped under one image, and that what i do has to remain perfect, when infact, i can look into a mirror and see hundreds and hundreds of flaws... But as the song says "It's time for makeup, perfect smile, its you there all waiting for". but how i REALLY feel?- "If there's nothing missing in my life, then why do these tears come at night?" Sorry for wasting any of your time.

i never noticed the actual meaning of this song until i watched "britney spears: for the record". then i realized that she's been "trapped" in that world for more than 10 years now. that sucks..not being able to step out of your house without security and psychos following you. always having to smile and having criticised everything you do.

The song describes that fame is very depressingly lonely and not all that its cracked up to be as people say. As she's under the pressure of the media, she secretly cries and puts on a fake smile for the crowd.

i agree with crzyjen319. there's so many people who say they hate britney spears, blah blah blah. seriously, you don't know her. okay, she went through some things in the past few years, but do you know what she was thinking? what would you do if you had paparazzi trailing at your heels every second of the day, trying to catch you at your worst, most humiliating moment?

    My Opinion
I love this song so much. I think a lot of people can relate to it. I feel really bad for Britney. People judge her so harshly. I've always really loved her. I know she's made some mistakes, but I think she has a good heart. I think when she started doing drugs and being irresponible she was just really confused and so she acted out. I mean, can you blame her? She has been under a microscope most of her life. You really can't expect her to be perfect. I love Britney Spears and I'm sure I always will.

    Song Meaning
I think all of yall are dissing on britney and the fact that she doesnt write the songs, instead of explaining the meaning behind the words. Yes, its true she doesnt write her own songs, but she does in fact develop the ideas with her writers ( sometimes.) Now is it possible that this song was one of them? Maybe. I think the realness of the song and the true meaning is to show that even though everyone thinks a persons life is perfect, famous or not, everyone has problems. This girl "Lucky" or "britney" puts a smile on her face and pretends that everything is okay, when in fact her world is falling apart. People need to relax and for once understand not everyone is perfect, regardless of what people say or think about them.

Moyet later described how her song "Goodbye 70's" had been inspired by her disillusionment with how the late-1970s punk scene had turned out, saying, "'Goodbye 70's' is about punk and not caring how you were dressed, and then I discovered that so many of my friends that I'd thought it all really meant something to just saw it as another trend... That's what 'Goodbye 70's' was all about, about how sour the whole thing became."

Alma Matters
Morrissey
The man has pseudo-friends who constantly criticize his actions. They moralize him, "teach" him and advise him to make a significant change in his life, because the way he is and what he does is not what they say it should be. They may find his life lame or immoral. They hold themselves up as role models. The man replies that he will make his own choices and decisions and he does not agree to unconditionally make himself under the influence of questionable quality advice. He justifies this by saying that there is always someone for whom he will be important, no matter what he does and no matter what he is. Although it is not said directly, I read it as meaning that he will always be important to himself in every way and he will always have his own support. "Everyone is different and maybe that's a good thing, but you exceeded that mark 1000 times" - I remember very well how sad the words I once heard (from my peers and it was in negative context) at school made me feel.
