"Odyssey" as written by and Josh Homme....
Take one to the mountain
Take one to the sea
Take one to the belly of the beast
And the you'll take one with me

Sudden?
Sudden?

Freezing in the fires
When I utter howl your name
Once you return from the belly of the beast
You're never quite the same

Shut it on?
Shut it on?

Fire on the mountain
And it rages inside of your soul
The fire inside the belly of the beast
Well it thunderizes your soul

Sudden?
Shut it on?

General CommentI think this is a metaphor for drugs...it could be about the effects of them and how they can change you and you can sometimes never be the same...

General Commentdrugs... odyssey=trip. take one=get high, take one with me, get high with me. freezing in the fires=come down off drugs, once you're sober, the memory of being high changes you. its blindingly obvious to me, its basically spelled out over a hypnotic riff that makes you a kyuss fan instantly.

General CommentIt always just sounded like an over the top fantasy story line you could expect from a band that took their name from D&D. But The riffs are so mean you don't have to take it seriously to love it.

Song Meaningalot of what made up the Palm Desert Scene, which Desert Rock , and subsiquently Stoner Rock, evolved from, was the effects of the Hippie movement further north in sanfrancisco, mixed with the heat of the desert. Because the desert is so remote, most of the early desert rock artists where able to get away with using psychedelic drugs in the middle of nowhere, like Weed, Mushrooms, LSD, and most commonly, Peyote.

Odyssey is about a trip that Josh Homme and John Garcia took together during the first formation of kyuss. While in the deserts of California, the two got lost coming home from a Generator Party near the border of Nevada. their car broke down, so they had to hike to a nearby town. on the way, the two smoked some weed that Garcia had brought for the trip, but because of cottonmouth and the sun, they almost dehydrated. Thanks to Josh, they found a couple of Peyote cactuses near a limestone cave, about 5 miles from the town. they knew they had time to kill, so they ate the whole cactus, and had themselves one hell of a mescaline trip. Odyssey is both about the Peyote trip, and the hike the two went through.
