Well, I'm standing here looking at you
What do I see?
I'm looking straight through
It's so sad
When you're young
To be told
You're having fun

So unplug the jukebox
And do us all a favor
That music's lost its taste
So try another flavor
Ant music, ant music
Ant music, ant music

Well, I'm standing here what do I see?
A big nothing
Threatening me
It's so sad
When you're young
To be told
You're having fun

So unplug the jukebox
And do us all a favor
That music's lost its taste
So try another flavor
Ant music, ant music
Ant music, ant music

So unplug the jukebox
And do us all a favor
That music's lost its taste
So try another flavor
Ant music, ant music
Ant music, ant music

Don't tread on an ant he's done nothing to you
There might come a day
When he's treading on you
Don't tread on an ant you'll end up black and blue
You cut off his head
Legs come looking for you

So unplug the jukebox
And do us all a favor
That music's lost its taste
So try another flavor
Ant music, ant music
Ant music, ant music

So unplug the jukebox
And do us all a favor
That music's lost its taste
So try another flavor
Ant music, ant music
Ant music, ant music
Ant music, ant music
Ant music, ant music
Ant music, ant music
Ant music, ant music
Ant music, ant music

I feel this song has more importance now more than ever. It seems to me that this song is about the alternative music cultures that sprang up at the time Adam Ant started out in the punk scene and dabbled in the new romantics. I think he is trying to say that you don't need to follow the masses and to be an individual. Todays music is almost forced down our throats with all this reality tv talent shows, telling us what is good and bad a lot of people would not be able to find individual music if it was playing next door to them.

The funky drumming at the beginning sounds aptly like an invasion of ants crawling towards you. Well, I think it does. :)

i have thought the same thing about this song ever since i first heard it. it's a song saying how good you are, and all the other music is crap. "so unplug the jukebox and do us all a favour that music's lost its taste so try another flavour - "antmusic"" - or so that is what i get out of it. i could be wrong... ean,//gore inferno. raw rock kills!

he is saying that his "antmusic" is (or was, since we are talking about an 80's song) better then the other music out there, on the radio. and that they should listen to his music. its a great way of self-promoting your music, without actually selling out. plus the song is fun to dance to. =]

I suppose misinterpreted this xD!! I always thought he was saying, "Its so sad to be young and be told that your a big fatso. " Not only did this line mean something to mean (When I was little my doctor called me fat -_-), but it changed the whole meaning of this song. The guitarist in Adam and the Ants was former guitarist from the band Bow Wow Wow, and they kicked him out because he was fat. I always took this song being about him, and almost as if saying that Adam and the Ants was better than Bow Wow xD Of course this information might be wrong .__.' I wasn't born in the 80s when all this awesome was going on, this is what my mother and father told me.

I'm pretty sure this song is about the fading of disco and the music industry trying to force you to listen to other music, as seen by the lyrics "to be told you're having fun". The music video features a sign with the word "disco" and in the song Adam says "That music has lost it's taste So try another flavour- ant music". Saying, if disco is gone, why not try ant music?

Moyet later described how her song "Goodbye 70's" had been inspired by her disillusionment with how the late-1970s punk scene had turned out, saying, "'Goodbye 70's' is about punk and not caring how you were dressed, and then I discovered that so many of my friends that I'd thought it all really meant something to just saw it as another trend... That's what 'Goodbye 70's' was all about, about how sour the whole thing became."

The man has pseudo-friends who constantly criticize his actions. They moralize him, "teach" him and advise him to make a significant change in his life, because the way he is and what he does is not what they say it should be. They may find his life lame or immoral. They hold themselves up as role models. The man replies that he will make his own choices and decisions and he does not agree to unconditionally make himself under the influence of questionable quality advice. He justifies this by saying that there is always someone for whom he will be important, no matter what he does and no matter what he is. Although it is not said directly, I read it as meaning that he will always be important to himself in every way and he will always have his own support. "Everyone is different and maybe that's a good thing, but you exceeded that mark 1000 times" - I remember very well how sad the words I once heard (from my peers and it was in negative context) at school made me feel.
