Sunday morning, rain is falling
Steal some covers, share some skin
Clouds are shrouding us in moments unforgettable
You twist to fit the mold that I am in
But things just get so crazy, living life gets hard to do
And I would gladly hit the road, get up and go if I knew
That someday it would lead me back to you
That someday it would lead me back to you
That may be all I need
In darkness, she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave
Fingers trace your every outline
Paint a picture with my hands
Back and forth we sway like branches in a storm
Change the weather, still together when it ends
That may be all I need
In darkness, she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave
But things just get so crazy, living life gets hard to do
Sunday morning, rain is falling and I'm calling out to you
Singing, someday it'll bring me back to you
Find a way to bring myself back home to you
That may be all I need
In darkness, she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
Driving slow
It's flower in your hair
I'm a flower in your hair
Steal some covers, share some skin
Clouds are shrouding us in moments unforgettable
You twist to fit the mold that I am in
But things just get so crazy, living life gets hard to do
And I would gladly hit the road, get up and go if I knew
That someday it would lead me back to you
That someday it would lead me back to you
That may be all I need
In darkness, she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave
Fingers trace your every outline
Paint a picture with my hands
Back and forth we sway like branches in a storm
Change the weather, still together when it ends
That may be all I need
In darkness, she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave
But things just get so crazy, living life gets hard to do
Sunday morning, rain is falling and I'm calling out to you
Singing, someday it'll bring me back to you
Find a way to bring myself back home to you
That may be all I need
In darkness, she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
Driving slow
It's flower in your hair
I'm a flower in your hair

A lot of people seem to be talking about how all of Maroon 5's songs are about sex, and while I agree that there is a definite sexual undertone to them, I think that Sunday Morning captures the sweet, subtle kind of passion that the band's aiming for in their lyrics. When you're with someone you love or care about, just touching them takes on new meaning. You're trying to memorize and worship every part of their body, and it's amazing that this type of reverance can be found in mere touch. That's what I love about Maroon 5's lyrics: they're very precise in a sense, but once you look deeper, you discover new angles.
to put a more positive note on it,
these two love each other.
they cherish each other.
however, they cannot stay together. they have to separate.
and so it would all be ok,
if only someday he somehow ends up going back to her again.
sounds a lot like the situation i find myself in.
i'll go away because i have to..
but the only way i will do it is if i know that someday my road will lead me back to her.
Can someone explain to me why the Bridge then goes:
'....life gets hard to do...I would gladly hit it road...if I knew...it would lead me back to you' ??
The first part is really beautiful, so why does he then say that he could happily venture off into the world if he knew that the road would one day take him back to her??
The lines such as "Fingers trace your every outline Paint a picture with my hands" make the most sense when thought of as trying to imprint a memory of a wonderful moment, when a visual just won't suffice. And "Back and forth we sway like branches in a storm Change of weather still together when it ends" refers to going through hard times and changes but sticking around in the end and making it work. "Share some skin" is in reference to existing as one being, in one (metaphorical) vessel, such as a human body. "Come and rest your bones with me" is like calling your loved one back to lay down with you and just enjoy the company. Note the word "REST". It's pretty self explanatory.
It's not a "very sexual" song. It's very loving, cute song with lyrics that only those who have been in love can truly understand and appreciate.
