Round Are Way Lyrics
Lying to the teacher he knows he knows
He didn't and he should've
Brought his lines in yesterday
Ernie bangs the sound and the day begins
The letterbox is open and your cash falls in
I'll meet you at the office
Just before the staff clock in
Round are way the sun shines bright
Round are way the birds sing for yer
The already know yer
It's twenty five a side and before it's dark
There's gonna be a loser
And you know the next goal wins
Cab it to the front as it's called a draw
Everybody's knockin at yours once more
Ernie bangs the sound
And no one's spoken since half past four
Round are way the sun shines bright
Round are way the birds are minging
Round are way it's alright
Round are way the birds sing for you
Cos the already know yer
They already know yer
the song is obviously about manchester, specifically where noel grew up and his view of how it was like to be there. "round are way" - round our way. (mancunians pronounce "our" like "are" and sometimes even spell it that way.) "bird" is slang for female, "minging" is gross - so i bet the line "round are way the birds are minging" is even funnier to you the next time you listen to this song - if you didn't know this already of course.
I'm the same age as the Gallagher's and grew up working class in England. I get the little nuances Noel was talking about. Basically, the songs about how great it was growing up and being a teenager in the eighties/early nineties despite having no money..
'Ernie bangs the sound and the day begins'
Ernie is a slang term for a milkman - because of Benny Hills song from the seventies (he drove the fastest milk float in the West)
'The letterbox is open and your cash falls in I'll meet you at the office Just before the staff clock in'
Back then, your unemployment benefit would be posted to you in the form of a giro cheque which you could only cash at the post 'office'.
I spent most of my teens playing 20 a side football in the park - jumpers for goalposts!
Girls are minging is a cheeky joke at the local girls. Meams 'dirty' or 'rough'.
At the end of the song the milkmans come round again but they've all been unconscious mashed up on hash or whatever since half past four.
The whole song is an appreciation of where they live and a sense of belonging.
'The birds sing for ya, cos they already know yer.'
Englands flippin brilliant!
Why has no one else posted on this? cracking song, lyrics on the face of it are nothing special but the way its sung and the music behind it makes it one of my favourite oasis songs, one of them real feel good songs, get it listioned in mid-summer and your flying..
This was actually my favourite song off the wonderwall single, which was the first cd I purchased myself. So upbeat and sugary, yet not to the point where you write it off because the tune is just so catchy. Why wasn't it on whats the story?? Good thing they did it on MTV unplugged :)
This reminds me of the beatles 'got to get you into my life' from revolver. Fuckin great tune.
this song is awsome, I think it's better when Liam sings it
very nice upbeat song, it should of been on whats the story instead of 2 blank tracks..wth is up with that
Brilliant track , definately without a doubt about growing up in 80s England , played the 25 a side footy games ,but was too young myself to experience the giro (other than my parents got em),love this track ,always av . Just oasis at the beginning, thru and thru
Wicked tune. Listen to the Noel @ MTV unplugged.
for some reason this song reminds me of sesame street, maybe because they mention ernie...who is ernie in this song anyways.
