Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream" she said
"The one that makes me laugh" she said
And threw her arms around my neck
"Show me how you do it and I promise you
I promise that I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you"

Spinning off that dizzy edge
I kissed her face and kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways I had
To make her glow
"Why are you so far away?" she said
"Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you?
That I'm in love with you?"

You........Soft and only
You .....Lost and lonely
You........Strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream

Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone
Alone, alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

You.......Soft and only
You........Lost and lonely
You....Just like heaven

obviously..he loves this girl still and she was a bit freakay (i know cuz i am and i know what he means about the special thing he does..cause i love it when they do that too!) but somehow they split up and he just burried her inside of him and covered the remains, pretends like it never happened, but sometimes it just comes back up and this is just memories of her. by the way, i've never listened to this song..just read the lyrics.

I enjoy the contrast between the original song and this one. . . the way that the song has underlying tones of sorrow which are glossed over by the poppy dynamics of the cure version.... and the Deadsy version really focuses on the sadness and meaning of the song.

    Either way, I love it.

Yeah, I like the way Deadsy sings it better. A lot of people cover songs by the cure...I've never really listened to them but it must mean they're really good.

From what I've heard Robert Smith from The Cure wrote this song about a girlfriend that he had in his younger years that drowned.

i find this song to be superficial and metaphorical

i think its talking about a strictly sexual relationship and later finds out that they both are in love

while they are still in love he finds out that she is dead and that he is still in love with her

(it is reported that ones of roberts smith girlfriend did drown and die)

THATS MY INTERPRETATION OF THE SONG. IM NOT HERE TO ARGUE JUST TO GIVE MY OPINION

JUST GIVE ME FEEDBACK ON WHAT YOU THINK OF MY OPINION

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
