There I stood with the sun in my eyes
Dust on my face
And mouth parched and dry
Memories are racing
Flashing scenes through my mind
I know what's ahead
Today would be a good day to die

Once I thought I had a golden heart
Once I thought my dreams would never shatter
Now I stand here
Jaded and cold
Epitaph being carved on my tombstone

I would die for you - would you die with me?
No, you can't deny
Would you catch the bullet that was meant for me?
Blaze across the sky

Sun is going down
And there's no tomorrow
Sun is going down
Going down on me
Sun is going down
No more time to borrow
Dance with the devil
Sun is going down
For the lonely hearted
Sun is going down
In a blink of an eye
Sun is going down
On the departed
Laugh at the devil

I would die for you - would you die with me?
Caught in a fight
I was drawn again
I never thought I'd be betrayed
By my best friend
He lost his life as he went for mine
If this is the end
I want to die with you

Would you catch the bullet that was meant for me?
Blaze across the sky

Sun is going down
Going down on me
Sun is going down
No more time to borrow
Dance with the devil
Sun is going down
For the lonely hearted
Sun is going down
In a blink of an eye
Sun is going down
On the departed
Laugh at the devil

I would die for you - would you die with me?
No, you can't deny
Would you catch the bullet that was meant for me?
Blaze across the sky

Sun is going down
Going down on me
Sun is going down
No more time to borrow
Dance with the devil
Sun is going down
For the lonely hearted
Sun is going down
In a blink of an eye
Sun is going down
On the departed
Laugh at the devil

Sun is going down
No more time to borrow
Sun is going down
Sun is going down
Sun is going down
...

I would die for you - would you die with me?
Would you catch the bullet that was meant for me?

This is possibly my favorite song ever. It's so dark and passionate. This is one of my favorite albums ever. Helloween is my second favorite band after Iron Maiden, but this is still probably my favorite song of all time. I based the ending of a story I wrote on this song, so my interpretation would be different I'm sure. I get the feeling of betrayal though, from a friend. This song almost has a Spawn feeling to it...

Yes I know that last comment was mine also sigh

I agree this is my favorite song ever too. We played this song on the intercom in the plane during ascend for night-drop over enemy territory as we could see the sun set in the horizon.

"I would die for you - would you die with me? Would you catch the bullet that was meant for me?"

This is possibly the greatest song ever made. I can't believe that no one has commented on it. I'm very disappointed in the amount of songs and comments on the Helloween page. This is one of the greatest bands of all time.

I agree with Rainbowdemon saying that Helloween is one of the greatest bands ever and I expected to find much more interpretations on Helloween's songs too. I'm not sure about the meaning of this song, but I think he died due to the unreliablility of his friend who was not able to save him or so...

    Question

Does this song have something to do with the movie The Departed by Scorcese?

I haven't seen the movie (yet), but I know it's about an undercover cop infiltrating a crime syndicate, and a mole from said syndicate infiltrating the police at the same time, each trying to identify the other.

Not sure about other themes in the movie and how they might fit to this song?

    My Interpretation

I think the song is about two friends that are on different sides in a war and one of them kills the other. He would probably be an spy ("I never thought I'd be betrayed / by my best friend / He lost his life as he went for mine"). 🤔?

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Trouble Breathing
Alkaline Trio
While the obvious connections with suicide or alcoholism could be drawn easily, more subtly this song could be about someone who views the world through a negative lens constantly and how as much as the writer tries to show the beauty in the world, this person refuses to see it. It's one or another between the rope and the bottle. There is no good option for this person. They can't see it. Skiba sings it in a kind of exasperated way like He's tired of hearing this negative view constantly and just allowing that person to continue feeling the way they feel knowing he can't do anything about it. You can hear it when he says maybe you're a vampire.

Somewhere Only We Know
Keane
Per the FAQ on Keane's website, Keane's drummer Richard Hughes, stated the following: "We've been asked whether "Somewhere Only We Know" is about a specific place, and Tim has been saying that, for him, or us as individuals, it might be about a geographical space, or a feeling; it can mean something individual to each person, and they can interpret it to a memory of theirs... It's perhaps more of a theme rather than a specific message... Feelings that may be universal, without necessarily being totally specific to us, or a place, or a time..." With the nostalgic sentiment and the overall tone of the song, I think Keane is attempting to express a Portuguese term known as 'saudade', which does not have a direct English translation but roughly means "that which we remember because it is gone."
