I ended the book that I'm writing
The part about you, I'm tearing it out
A simple good night, stop fighting
There is nothing there to even read about

I'm leaving you here my darling
To search for a better and easy way out
Trough all of the pain that I'm causig
There is nothing there to even sing about

But it goes,
bah bah bah barabara barah-ba, jabbadei, jabbadei, jabbadeii, jabbadarabaah
bah bah bah babah, bah bah barabara barah-ba, jabbadei, jabbadei, jabbadeii, jabbadarabaah hey-hey-hey

Recorded the Italian radio
I changed up the words that made ya happy though.
I then met that man from that music show
I beat ut, I beat up the boy that made ya happy thoug
Rombombombom oeeheh.

I noticed the things that you want me to be,
Thay ait'alweis the ones that made me happy
So pull out your hands and meet my, fine new lady
She's rock n' roll, and she save me.

It goes,
bah bah bah barabara barah-ba, jabbadei, jabbadei, jabbadeii, jabbadarabaah
bah bah bah babah, bah bah barabara barah-ba, jabbadei, jabbadei, jabbadeii, jabbadarabaah hey-hey-hey

I love these guys. They're definatly the best band I've ever seen live. They play with enormous feeling and really get into the music. You can tell that they love what they're doing and it makes the show that much better.

I think this song is about a lost love. He originally wrote a song badmouthing her, but then he decided not to sing the song. He wanted still cares about her and doesn't want to upset her. It doesn't mean he's no longer angry with her, but he respects her. He's happy now, though, he's found a new love-Rock and Roll. She's always there for you to fall back on.

This is my favorite Blue October song EVER! It's such a fun song. You can dance to it easily, and the live version is simply amazing. BLue October is the only band that can have I Violin solo and the song still be kick ass!

I like the live version better.

I'm pretty sure this song is about a guy who is pushed around by his girlfriend, she makes him write about her in his book, she makes him play Italian Music at the radio station he works at, etc. And this song is about how he just breaks free from all that with the power of Rock and Roll.

For some reason this song makes me think of Dexter. "I notice the things you want me to be, they outweigh the ones that make me happy." Talks about how Rita sees Dexter as a nice guy, loving, caring ,ect, but hes really a killer, and he likes it like that. "So put out your hand to meet my, my fine new lady, she's rock and roll, and she's saved me" Is like Lilia, Dexter's affair in the second season who is free spirited and accepts him.

    Just my 0.02$

This song is so interesting, both musically and lyrically. And I agree with Stolensoul, the live version is better. The studio version is too poppy for my taste, and doesn't really reflect the passion in the lyrics. The live is far less generic, and the roughness really makes the lyrics ring most true.

The one line I'm curious about is the "I beat up the boy that made her happy, though," and how that relates to the "in front of the midnight music show." I get that the "though" is connecting it to the next line, saying that he did this despite the fact that he knows her expectations for him. But then wouldn't she have been the one to end the relationship with him? Because in the beginning, it seems like he ended it with her, not the other way around. ["I ended the book that I'm writing, the part about you I'm tearing it out."] I suppose that he left her because he was causing too much pain? Yes?

Anyway, awesome song, Blue October is AMAZING.

    Song Meaning

DISCLAIMER I have just obtained a copy of Justin Furstenfeld's book Crazy Making. It's not very detailed, but it contains all the lyrics to all current (The Answers - Approaching Normal) Blue October songs, and his inspiration behind them. As I said, it's not very detailed, but it's his words on every Blue October song that is in the book. I know everyone interprets a song differently from everyone else, but having the original intent behind the song will be helpful to people who don't fully understand a song. Also, any grammatical errors are not made by me, I'm putting down Justin's words exactly how he writes them. So yea... enjoy :)

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
