It's Good To Be King Lyrics
To be there in velvet, yeah, to give 'em a smile
It's good to get high and never come down
It's good to be king of your own little town
Can I help it if I still dream time to time
Get a feeling of peace at the end of the day
And when your bulldog barks and your canary sings
You're out there with winners, it's good to be king
Can I help it if I still dream time to time
It helps to make friends, it's good to meet girls
A sweet little queen who can't run away
It's good to be king, whatever it pays
Where I go time to time

Yeah, sometimes you just have to withdraw and have a little place in your mind where you're the boss. Might keep you from going nuts with life and all its pressures and craziness.
I really like the piano riff in this song, as simple as it may be. Adds tons of mood.

yeah, it's great to be on top of your world, even if it's only in your own mind some of the time. that's the place that matters the most anyway.

your right ramthar, that is the exact felling i get from tom when i hear him sings this song.

Nice little guitar solo too; high point of the album if you ask me (the solo, not the whole song). Right when "You Don't Know How It Feels" kicks in is pretty killer too.

It's good to get high and never come down - True that. Tom Petty's songs like this one usually get me in a relaxed mood where i'm in my own little place in my mind just as the song says. Why so few comments though?

When life gives you shit, there is always that place in your mind where you can go, where everything is ok... There you are always the king and you are right.. Best Tom Petty song, atleast in lyrics...

Used to love this song since I was 17. Just saw the music video for the first time last week and it hit me it's clearly about mkultra monarch slaves and their handlers. Seeing a lot of this theme since I noticed it in the "Don't Come Around Here No More" Alice in Wonderland themed video and I'm watching "Mare Jane's Last Dance" to see if there's any symbolism there. Makes me question/pity Tom Petty.
