The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
put your heads on my shoulder
hold me in yours arms, baby
squeeze me oh so tight and show me
that you love me too
put your lips next to mine dear,
wont you kiss once so baby,
just to kiss goodnight and maybe
you and i will fall in love
people say
that love is a game
a game, you just cant win
if theres a way i'll find it someday
and then this fool will rush in
put your head on my shoulder
whisper in my ear baby
words i wanna hear, tell me
tell me that you love me too
put your heads on my shoulder
whipser in my ear baby
words i wanna hear baby
put your heads on my shoulder
hold me in yours arms, baby
squeeze me oh so tight and show me
that you love me too
put your lips next to mine dear,
wont you kiss once so baby,
just to kiss goodnight and maybe
you and i will fall in love
people say
that love is a game
a game, you just cant win
if theres a way i'll find it someday
and then this fool will rush in
put your head on my shoulder
whisper in my ear baby
words i wanna hear, tell me
tell me that you love me too
put your heads on my shoulder
whipser in my ear baby
words i wanna hear baby
put your heads on my shoulder

Fast Car

"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
i'm not sure about the third verse where it says "and then this fool will runaway" so it might be wrong..
are you sure thats good charlotte ?
isn't it supposed to be "put your HEAD on my shoulder"?? dude, and isn't that a cover of an oldie??
for this version, it's supposed to be "put your heads on my shoulder"...watch the movie and you'll understand. (not another teen movie)
so is this song like in the soundtrack for 'not another teen movie'? I love that movie!
yeah its a cover.... in the mp3 he sings "put your hands on my shoulder"
All the songs on the not another teen movie sound track are covers, and this particular song does not happen to be on it, also, it IS put you heads on my shoulder and if you watch the movie you'll understand what I'm talkin about
peachy, thats what i said. there are a bunch of covers from that movie that didnt make it on the soundtrack. GC did: if you leave, and i want candy too. mest did i melt with you.
ANYWAYS i think this is a great song i almost have to laugh when i hear it i never owuld have expected GC to cover this song!
