I wish I could be anyone but the one that I am now
I wish I could see any scene but the one I hang around
I wish I could do anything but the things I always do
No matter how I try to sing along
Something is always wrong
What I wish I knew

I wish I could drive in the car that you drive around the Bay
I wish I could ride in the back seat you're riding in today
I wish I could be more like someone you wish that I could be
No matter how I change it anyway
You won't even say if you really want me

I can try to please you
Get down on my knees for you
Go outside and freeze for you
Cross the high seas for you
Whatever you need me to
I can climb the trees for you
Twist in the breeze for you
But there's one thing that I can never do
I can't believe for you
I can't believe in me for you

I wish I could turn into somebody far, far away
I wish I could make myself satisfactory in every way
I wish I could know whether you really know what you need
If I could only be somebody else
I wouldn't be myself
And maybe you'd want me

I can try to please you
Get down on my knees for you
Go outside and freeze for you
Swim the high seas for you
Whatever you need me to

I've been climbing the trees for you
Twisting in the breeze for you
But one thing I can never, never do

I can't believe for you
I can't believe for you
I can't believe in me for you

Has noone heard this song?!? I shed a tear almost everytime I hear it. When my boyfriend and I broke it off after 4 yrs. I was really lost and confused, I had no clue what I wanted in life, where I was going, or anything. We eventually reconciled and he said he would listen to this song and that helped him understand what I was going through at the time. We are not currently together so now this song really gets to me, It is a really beautiful song to me....

ever since this album first came out, this has been one of my favorite songs of theirs. it's always been one that i relate to... it sums up a certain feeling i find myself awash in every so often with these lines: "I can't believe in me for you," and really, when you think about it, it seems that often turns out to be the one obstacle not even the most determined romantic can overcome. if someone doesn't believe in you, there is nothing you can do about it. that's one of the worst feelings.

"I wish I could ride in the back seat you're riding in today,"

that part always brings about vivid memories for me... in general, I just love the imagery in this song, and the almost hopeful sound in the instrumental bits towards the end. i guess in a way it's a positive song, because it shows the devotion the narrator has to the person he is singing to. you sure don't find that quality in people very often.

not my favorite but its a good song. For me its the lines:

"I wish I could be more like someone you wish that I could be" and "If I could only be somebody else I wouldn't be myself"

that really gives points. Its the part i can relate the most to as its something i have felt pretty much since i was a kid and up to present day.

The song gives people a kind of uncomfortable, helpless feeling. I think this song is suitable on a rainy day or when people feel despaired. What I feel more is that ‘if I could only be someone else. I wouldn’t be myself’. I think people should be their owners and try not to imitate others. You should believe in yourself. Though I haven’t had such depressed feelings but some friends around me had that. The song really speaks out their voices.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
