In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
How does her world spin
Without me in her nest?
Could there really be such happiness?
Oh, she's got a dark side too
Even murderous
But I love that
Just like her
I don't have a chance at writing the book
I just want to be a page
In Jeannie's diary
One single page
In Jeannie's diary
Yes I am intense
Maybe quite obsessed
Everything she does is curious
Oh, she's going to let me in
I just know it's so
Then again, who do I kid?
I don't have a prayer for writing the book
I just want to be a page
In Jeannie's diary
One single page
In Jeannie's diary
She could have anything she wants
So why not me?
She could have anything she dreams
Oh, to be one single page
One single page
In Jeannie's diary
Without me in her nest?
Could there really be such happiness?
Oh, she's got a dark side too
Even murderous
But I love that
Just like her
I don't have a chance at writing the book
I just want to be a page
In Jeannie's diary
One single page
In Jeannie's diary
Yes I am intense
Maybe quite obsessed
Everything she does is curious
Oh, she's going to let me in
I just know it's so
Then again, who do I kid?
I don't have a prayer for writing the book
I just want to be a page
In Jeannie's diary
One single page
In Jeannie's diary
She could have anything she wants
So why not me?
She could have anything she dreams
Oh, to be one single page
One single page
In Jeannie's diary

For what it's worth, this is a cover version. It was orignally written by The Hollies. I really like this version though. It makes it easy to be wistful, which is a wonderful thing.
