This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
Whenever I go out to parties, I try so hard just to fit in.
I'll walk around with a cup of beer in my hand. and smoke a cigarette.
I want to be like everyone else.
If I was a rock star, the would notice me.
and they would want my autograph.
I'll have a video on MTV.
and I'll be signed on epitaph.
I'm just another face in the crowd, I'm not gonna let it bring me down
because I know someday I'll break away.
I'm just another face in the crowd, I'm gonna break away somehow,
before my mind goes insane.
Everyday I think about my future.
I don't know what I want to be.
It always seems like I'm stagnating...
uh whoa uh whoa uh oh oh...oh!
separated from society.
If I was an actor like keanu reeves.
Then all the girls would scream and shout and tear.
I'll be rich and famous from the movie screen.
and by this time we'll be sold out.
I'll walk around with a cup of beer in my hand. and smoke a cigarette.
I want to be like everyone else.
If I was a rock star, the would notice me.
and they would want my autograph.
I'll have a video on MTV.
and I'll be signed on epitaph.
I'm just another face in the crowd, I'm not gonna let it bring me down

hahah.. Man this song is good. Its another sarcastic song about people not being happy with who they are and trying to be someone else.. Talking about schemes for them to be popular.. haha. I like where he goes "If I was an actor like keanu reeves. Then all the girls would scream and shout and tear. I'll be rich and famous from the movie screen. and by this time we'll be sold out." or where they talked about being signed on epitaph.. which sucks btw. Good Cali. Punk.. I mean these were good songs, before kings of pop cd. they got old I guess.
