    Can’t post on Bangles version so I put it here. The lyrics are saying that everyone in the 80s and today is believing gnosticism without knowing they are. And they don’t know its origin. Cerinthus of Asia Minor in the first century got it from the *Gnosis of Egypt* according to Irenæus *Against Heresies*. See song lyric about the walls of the pyramids. Paul, Jude and John opposed it from John’s gospel, through the epistles and to the end of the New Testament in the book of The Revelation of Jesus Christ. Jesus exhorts the seven churches about the false teaching of the Nicolaitans, Jezebel, and Balaam all metaphorically Cerinthus and his followers. The non-biblical so called gospels are gnostic also. So called because they take the good news out of Jesus’ mission and ministry which atones for sins by grace not works and established His Kingdom.
