I saw you dancin' out the ocean
Runnin' fast along the sand
A spirit born of earth and water
Fire flyin' from your hands

In the instant that you love someone
In the second that the hammer hits
Reality runs up your spine
And the pieces finally fit

And all I ever needed was the one
Like freedom fields where wild horses run
When stars collide like you and I
No shadows block the sun
You're all I've ever needed
Baby you're the one

There are caravans we follow
Drunken nights in dark hotels
When chances breathe between the silence
Where sex and love no longer gel

For each man in his time is Cain
Until he walks along the beach
And sees his future in the water
A long lost heart within his reach

And all I ever needed was the one
Like freedom fields where wild horses run
When stars collide like you and I
No shadows block the sun
You're all I've ever needed
Baby you're the one

And all I ever needed and was the one
Like freedom fields where wild horses run
When stars collide like you and I
No shadows block the sun
You're all I've ever needed
Baby you're the one

All I ever needed was the one
Like freedom fields where wild horses run
When stars collide like you and I
No shadows block the sun
You're all I've ever needed
Baby you're the one

General CommentElton has 2 songs I love...this one and "The way you look tonight." If you listen to a line in the latter, you will see a connection to this song: he says, "...when you found me, I was feeling like a cloud across the sun..." In this one, he says "...no shadows block the sun..." I understand what he is saying because I've felt the same...through love, there is no darkness. Both these songs are inspiring, because you can tell that he is writing from experience--from the experience of true love.

Now, I do have to say that I don't get some of the expressions he uses in this song, which I how I landed on this website! E.g., what does, "For each man in his time is Cain" mean? Or how about "There are caravans we follow
    Drunken nights in dark hotels
When chances breathe between the silence..."

Nevertheless, I can relate to the overall message of deep, enduring, true love that he sings about in these songs.
