What's The Matter With Kids Today?

Like most NoFX songs, this makes a serious point with tongue jammed firmly in cheek. It's not so literal as Panathinaikos makes out, and it's not a specific attack on jock types. It seems to be more of a complaint about the growing number of kids identifying with the more conservative side of politics. Now, Fat Mike is a pretty serious liberal, and this no doubt bothers him. I guess the feeling is that kids should be acting like kids, not copies of their parents.

Alternatively, the song might just be saying that there is someting strange about kids behaving the way the song describes. Not that he is saying there is anything wrong with it (in terms of a value judgment), just that it is unusual for kids to act that way.

One of the most stupid things I've read, and you actually put effort in it, and that scares me, that you actuall think that way. What are you doing in the NOFX section of this site, anyway??

If this song is meant to be taken literally, then I have to say it is one of the most ignorant songs I've ever heard. They're basically complaining about people being decent people and showing each other respect. Not everybody can be assholes like them. The world would be even worse than it is now if everyone was like these guys. And if it wasn't for those educated people that this song is dissing, these guys wouldn't be able to live the lifestyles that they are living now (if there were no smart people making new technology and the world a better place we'd be living in the Middle Ages and people like this wouldn't have the chance to live their sex, drugs, rock 'n roll lifestyle). These guys sound more like jocks than punks. That's what jocks do - diss anyone who is different than them even though if everyone was a dumbass like them we'd all be living in the Stone Ages and it's basically intelligent, hard-working people who give them the opportunity to piss all their teenage years on highschool sports and going around and abusing people and contributing nothing to society and still have a chance to live comfortably after they graduate. And jocks aren't just limited to highschools, they're fucking everywhere you go in society. All our world leaders are fucking jocks too that's why the world is full of wars and poverty.
