You always wanted more time
To do what you
Always wanted to do
Now you got it
And I, I must be high
To say goodbye
Bye bye bye

You never said you needed this
You're pissed that you missed
The very last kiss
From my lips
And I, I must be high
To say goodbye
Bye bye bye

And you never looked in my eyes
Long enough to find
Any peace of mind
But now you got it, and I
I must be high
To let you say goodbye
I must be high

Bye bye bye
Bye bye bye

Like most of the songs on AM this tune is about breaking up. I always thought the song was about regret sfter the fact, but after listening to it with the break up of Uncle Tupelo in mind, I was struck by the songs anger. The regret about Uncle Tupelo's demise is still present but the lines, "And you never looked in my eyes, Long enough to find any piece of mind But now you got it" strike me as the songs centerpiece and Tweedy's first shot at Jay Farrar.

This is the best song ever. Wilco is a great band and everyone should listen to them. One day they will be so popular. On the east coast they already are but when they get popular everywhere remember I knew it! This is one of my favorite songs by them. I love it!

Chicago is their own flipping state. If you gather a group of people together and ask them where they're from, it goes something like this: "Pennsylvania." "Rhode Island." "Georgia." "New Mexico." "Chicago." It's proven to be true... at least in my own experience. Lol, Chicago, your funny accents make me happy. I hope Chicago overthrows the US some day. My boyfriend sang this song to me once... Just for the heck of it. lol. Wilco is neat. Jesus Christ for President.
