Radiohead – Motion Picture Soundtrack Lyrics 11 years ago
The thing with Radiohead is that people usually take the lyrics too literally or they are looking too deep. Sometimes they are just lyrics. However, in this song, its neither. This song is loaded with metaphors about, as someone stated earlier, struggling to face the harsh reality of life. Further, it is about the loss of innocence in a violent way. This is apparent to me in lyrics, "Beautiful angel, pulled apart at birth, limbless and helpless." What could be more innocent than an infant? The violent tearing apart of this innocence is the journey of life - growing, succeeding, failing. And Thom shows us ithat he is human like the rest of us in the last line of the song, "I will see you in the next life." This shows that Thom thinks in black and white like the rest of us - that suicide may be the only way out. Most of us employ, at one time or another, black and white thinking when under stress. Also, its the last song on the album. So what he really could be saying is that I'll see you on Amnesiac.

Pink Floyd – Keep Talking Lyrics 12 years ago
Powerful. This song is deep because of its tribal like bass, guitar and drums, balance of male and female vocals and simple but poignant lyrics. I find the lyrics speak to personal and relational struggles. Our struggles to express our feelings and thoughts and our struggles to communicate with our loved ones. Further, it speaks to SH's struggle to remain in communication with the human race. How desperate must it feel to have lost one's voice as well as many other bodily functions many of us take for granted? In fact, it is ironic SH begins and ends the vocals in this song as he has struggled maybe more so than others. Yet, most of us will take this song as an "I should have said" when we think about a missed opportunity with a loved one. I mean, how hard is it to tell someone how you feel? Yet, we struggle with this until it is too late.

The Tragically Hip – Locked In The Trunk Of A Car Lyrics 12 years ago
The anthem of a serial killer. Though he 'dumps the body', it is the serial killer who still feels locked in the trunk of a car...until he can find his next victim.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – The Wind Cries Mary Lyrics 12 years ago
To interpret this song is to do it an injustice. This song is pure beauty, pure poetry by an artist who spoke to us not only with his voice and guitar, but with his soul.

SP's tribute to the Beatles last song on the White Album. Beautifully done. I can listen to this song over and over. D'arcy's voice is mesmerizing.

Grandaddy – He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's The Pilot Lyrics 13 years ago
This song reminds me of the story of Icarus and how our ego can deceive us. Hence the name of the song "He's simple, he's dumb, he's the pilot." We can seem so dumb in the pursuit of things that satisfy our ego. We don't realize how dumb we are at the time as we are flying toward the sun, but eventually we get burned. Being up in space is a metaphor for being disconnected from reality, which is referred to as "solid ground". And how many times have you heard your parents, friends or others say "Land damn it, land." But we ignore the pleas and warnings and go on towards the sun, often losing our way as we drift further from our self. Sometimes we drift so far from our self, we need a map to get back. Back to "solid ground" is the metaphorical parent who is there for us when we get burned. Once we are on solid ground, reality sets in and we grieve, fight, deny and sometimes hide to be with our depression alone. Perhaps this is what leads the singer to say, "Are you giving in 2000 man?", metaphorically referring to how many in our lives become concerned for us when we have lost a love, been burned or crashed emotionally and are struggling to cope. Interesting that the song ends with the question unanswered. Perhaps the singer has not yet come to terms with his own ideas of giving up. But he continues to ask himself the question, like a person who may be contemplating suicide or retreating from the cruel reality life can be at times.
