Procol Harum – A Whiter Shade of Pale Lyrics 14 years ago
Back when I toured in a band I thought this song was about playing shows: "We skipped the light fandango/ Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor/ I was feeling kinda seasick/ But the crowd called out for more". But then I did something smart and listened to more than the first stanza. It's about cocain and overdosing on cocain. Anyone with experience with drugs would know what "the room was humming harder" means.

Patti Smith – Pissing in a River Lyrics 14 years ago
"Pissing In A River" means that you're not making any difference. Conflict uses the term "pissing in an ocean" over and over again to describe how the Sex Pistols and the Clash never change anything through all of their success.

David Bowie – Rock 'n' Roll Suicide Lyrics 14 years ago
The song isn't about an actual suicide. A "Rock and Roll Suicide" is the same thing that Huey Nueton described as a "Revolutionary Suicide": someone who gives his entire life and everything he is to a revolution. Instead of revolution it's rock and roll. It describes how Ziggy gave everything he was to rock and roll. The song basically talks about how "you" (Ziggy) has nothing in the end, because he gave everything to the music.
