Tom Waits – Jitterbug Boy Lyrics | 13 years ago |
What he's saying is that he's not impressed with BS, and as far as he is concerned claiming to have slept w/ M Monroe is as impressive as eating Mulligan stew. I'm convinced I've heard a version of this song where he says "It's fast women, slower horses, I'm reliable sources. I'll tell you anything you want me to know." I can't find this version anywhere though. Has anybody else heard this version? |
Tom Waits – Jesus Gonna Be Here Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This is Tom Waits at his best. Not only does he give us an uplifting gospel tune, but he combines it with a poignant snippet of the human condition. Is he a simple spiritual man doing his best to make the world a better place? Is he an ignorant drunk who uses religion to hide from his weaknesses? Is he just another schmuck trying his best to live his life as best as he can? BTW I don't see him dying any sooner than the rest of us. Jesus will be here soon enough. |
Tom Waits – Whistlin' Past the Graveyard Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The phrase "whistling past the graveyard" is about projecting a false sense of confidence to compensate for your fears. He's not being disrespectful, he's just trying to convince himself that he's badder then anything lurking in the graveyard. |
